No idea what's going on with these leaves

hygrozyme is a great product its just way over priced

but it works along side your mycos or BB

sm90 or h202 youll not want to use BB or myco because theyre sterilizing agents

I have no idea if it works as well or how to dose it but

kelp4less.com has an enzyme powder that's suppose to be similar to hygrozyme at a fraction of the cost

drop your chiller temp down to 60
I've had water temp at 62 for the last few days; except for slower growth at lower temps, are there any other issues with keeping the res cooler? Or should i go back up to 65?

Couldn't find a definitive answer about this online. Could also post pics later tonight, the plant has stayed about the same - leaf issue hasn't spread, but the roots aren't looking any different

if your worried about root disease or already have root issues the colder will slow the bad bacterias down

I don't think the growth difference between 60 and 65 will be noticeable or worth worrying about

I cant speak to the use of beneficial bacteria (BB)and mycos in hydro

ive little experience using them in hydro and my success using the BB in hydro wasn't great... plus ive not read much on the topic
so please give me some slack if im not spot on with the info but as far as I know
typically if you have root disease you would want to use a sterilizer to kill the pathogens or bad bacteria
something like sm90 and or hydrogen peroxide or even bleach

beneficials are typically used by some to prevent root disease... but if you already have root disease then the BB isn't likely to cure it

you might ask around for those who use BB in hydro and see how they do it

but if it was me and I had root disease id dose them with h2o2 and then sm90 and keep the temps at 60 or as close as I could to 60... but that's me and im not a fan of BB in hydro... but I also understand others have good success with it so I don't get much into the debate

if your trying to go with BB then id use hygrozyme and the BB
the hygrozyme is an enzyme that eats dead root matter and wont kill your BB like h202 or bleach

as for temps and BB I can say for sure, but 60 isn't cold enough to hurt the BB but it may or may not reduce the activity but im sure its marginal from 60 to 65 degrees

I think it gets faster at warm temps but that's only going to hurt by increasing the chances of bad bacteria

Appreciate your taking the time to explain.. helps me wrap my head around all this

I'd like to thank you all who recommended hygrozyme! I added 3mL/gal (about 25mL total) about 24 hours ago, and I'm already seeing new root growth. In fact, I haven't seen roots grow so LONG in such a short time!

Up above, there hasn't been a newly wilting leaf since I lowered the temps last week, and this makes sense, given that it looks like the roots have stopped getting worse.

There is still quite a bit of browned roots, but there is definitely new growth. I know I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm hopeful. Pics in a second!

id go ahead and use the full dose for a week or two and then cut it back

isn't full dose 8mls per gallon? it wont hurt anything

I went less b.c I read how slime could get out of hand in less-than-perfect conditions and that I should go a little light. Was shooting for half strength, but it ended up being more like 3ml and not 4ml

Due for a res change, so I'll add full strength to the new res tomo

Hydro should be fully synthetic imo. Microbes are for soil....i cant see any point in water culture...adding bacteria and fungi is asking for trouble.....
id agree, that's been my personal experience also

except in the case of the enzyme or hygrozyme

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the hygrozyme brand also contains a small amount of synthetic rooting hormone

but here are those out there whom claim it works great
personally I wouldn't put anything organic in my reservoir, not even kelp!

I honestly haven't tried running a sterile res, still in my first year since switching to hydro, and I also was never that great at soil..

I chose to go the bennies route because I didn't have a chiller when I started and was worried about higher temps than 65F. It's been good so far, but I guess I was just delaying the eventual pathogen of some sort. Thanks all for the help!

theres plenty of people out there who will disagree and say bennies are great for hydro

I wont debate it, I can only offer my experience with it...... its not for me

Definitely wasn't trying to pick a fight! Lol
I appreciate hearing your opinion about it, interested enough to consider trying a sterile res. Ill probably be taking a short break from growing the next time I run into any potentially-fatal issues, so ill maybe try it after then!

So far, plants have resumed growing, both leaves and roots. The roots aren't perfect, but the new growth is white, so I'm happy

it wasn't real bad to start with so youll be in good shape

just remember

youll not want to use both the enzyme and sterilizer at the same time

you could use h202 1x and 5 days later switch to hygrozyme ... but not together or your just waisitng the hygrozyme

i saw your post about the enzyme from kelp4less.

if you want really cheap, pick up 16oz of pond-zyme. it treats 16000 gallons for 25 bucks.
i'm using their version of fountain enzymes that is a liquid vs powder. 12 bucks for this entire grow for 2 8oz bottles.

is that an enzyme like hygrozyme that eats root matter ... or is it and algaecide... or is it like the liquid BMC which stand for "biological mosquito control"

I think there are enzymes for all three, I could be wrong they might also be beneficial bacterias

the BMC works in the same way as gnatrol working on the larvae in the medium.. ive had success using it to treat fungas gnats

here's what it says on label:
blend of dry bacteria and natural barley to remove sludge build up in ponds.

safe for fish and all pond plants.

i'm in hempy buckets so it's hard to examine roots until harvest time. i quit using chlorine because i'm using GH floranova which has some organics in it ie humics
