I would throw that peice of shit in the trash before you burn down your house! There are full setups on e-bay for around 150.00! I would rather buy one of those than burn the house down or grow sub standard plants!

Haha! It still makes me laugh every time I hear/read someone say that. Or when I see those posters with Obama and a mustache that bears quite a resemblance to Hitler's because of cut backs to Nasa funding. Seriously? I'm not sure a comparison of Nasa budget cuts to a genocidal maniac (genius, but a maniac all the same).
Anyhoo, there will ALWAYS be people who have something to complain about. The same people protesting the war in Iraq would be the same people complaining we didn't do enough if we never went over and tried to help. 'Tried' being the key word.
Oh, and throw that ballast out. Either buy a new one or teach yourself how to build one safely. 'Safely' being the key word

Yeah I fucking wish I got an air cooled hood! But I am about to expand my grow room to two 3X4X6 flower rooms each with 1000w air cooled, and one 3X4X6 veg room with a 600w Mh. I will also have one little seedling box with 700w total CFL's. As soon as my buddy designates me as his provider I will be able to have 30 plants and a shitload of weed on me at a time!
One of my first lessons learned was go with an Air coold hood!!!!!! Heat is a bitch to try to control!

This was from 1987 when we were trying to do a room. My "Pal" was running extension
cords. He was no amp master.
The house was consumed. I had to go back in and get somebody b-4 FD showed up.
I damn near melted from the heat and fell twice. Plastic melted on me. That was fun.

that is a resin encased HID ballast from an enclosed, canister type, ground fixture, aka an uplight.
the resin protects the ballast core's heat sink (laminated steel plates) from moisture that condenses on the inside of the fixture during lights off..............................................
last time im repeating myself on this subject.

If IAm5toned had this item then I would say, "no worries" but if you don't understand what you have, don't mess with it. I've seen too many people do stuff with electrical not understanding a thing about it.
