If I get the time I'll be making a beast of a pumpkin bong, been wanting to make one for a few years now.

definitely try to find the time, it would be great to see a huge one!! what if we used a 200 or 300 pound pumpkin to make one! that would be so cool hahaha. you could smoke off it for ever!!

Well this is V2.0 of my fist pumpkin bong.

I call it Bong-O-Lantern. Although I have to say this is more like V2.1 because at first i sealed up the carving part with some plastic and hot glue which did work.....at first. But then I had to try it out and well on about the 3rd hit the hot glue unstuck from the pumpkin (apparently hot glue doesnt stick to pumpkins!) and well i got wet lol.

So now i just stuck a water bottle bong in there idk if it counts still but at least it looks cool

Count me in. The plan is for a double-hose bong-o-lantern with a carbon-filtered glass party bowl from the top (drilled middle hole), with an extension dipping down into a water reservoir. It won't be getting constructed until the last minute, so expect my entry + photos sometime around Friday the 30th at 10-11PM. It's really the earliest I can work on it.

The hardest part will be making the carving area air-tight, but I'm confident I can make it work.

yea that was the worst thing for me....and i managed to get it to work but only for a few puffs...im still trying to figure out another way to seal it up....anybody have an idea?
My plan is to buy some sort of semi-rigid clear plastic (like overhead transparency sheet-type plastic, but maybe a bit thicker... maybe like the plastic that comprises 95% of annoying packaging in the gadget market today). Anyways, with that plastic, I'm going to cut out the pieces of the pumpkin that I'm going to carve. I'll then trace around these pieces on the pumpkin. When doing the actual carving, some sort of attempt will be made to try and carve with a bit of a slope inwards, so that the diameter of the holes tapers in slightly. Once the hole is made, I'll push the piece of plastic in, trying to get it to be held tightly by the pumpkin flesh. I'm going to probably end up applying a ring of hot glue around it, but this will be more for air-tight-ness than for structural support, since (as was pointed out before) hot glue isn't that effective on pumpkin flesh.

I haven't tried any of that above. It is my plan though, unless anybody here offers anything better. Like I said, I'll be constructing next Friday, so I've got a week to think of other ideas.

hmm you really thought into this, be careful with the hot glue though. it only sticks for a short amount of time

That sounds pretty cool... i wonder if you would even need anything to seal it if you could get the plastic tight enough inside the hole...

you could make one and it would be yummy but i think for the sake of the contest we will stick to judging pumkins. you could use the apple as the bowl or something if you wanted and attach it to a pumpkin. i doubt that my prizes would suffice for someone of your growing prowess however.... but its all fun anyways....

I think the hot glue is going to be used more of a sealant than an adhesive. Are you telling me that the hot glue will basically fall off? I don't plan on it supporting any serious weight - just sort of sitting in its place so that air can't flow through the tiny cracks.

If hot glue won't work, I wonder if a caulking-type sealant would work. That might take time to dry though, and maybe won't be the safest thing in the world.

I'll be scheming ideas all week, so hopefully the design is tweaked by then.

ill be enhancing mine with sharpies and markers so i dont need to carve it much and make it air tight

im also thinking of a sick twisty gourd bubbler or sherlock

yeah man.. i am in... wont get a chance to build it till sunday, but when i get it built it will be awesome.. i used to have this obsession back in high scholl with making bongs outta anything... no head shops in my town turned me into a serious inventor...lol... i once turned my original playstation into a really big chambered pipe... i could play the station for awhil until it got too resiny and over heated... then it sorta just crashed... good times...
