In the late 70s one of my cousins took a job over in Saudi Arabia working for one of the oil companies on their compounds delivering the mail. He only had to work 4 hours a day 5 days a week and made 75k a year back then tax free. The big draw back was no booze or women were allowed due to shari'a law. That's why they had to pay so much. Nobody wanted to be out in the damn desert with no beer or women. He saved his cash and bought Persian rugs for cheap to resell over here and made a killing. They got busted making beer when some bottles popped from over fermentation while they were out camping in the desert and security came to check out noises from the apt. Crazy times like you said back then too.
One thing about the U.A.E. is they didn't have any restrictions on alcohol. My first black out drunk was when I was 13 with ol' Jose Cuervo 1800. Parties every weekend with the Halliburton management. I'd mingle with dad's co workers, and when I got caught sipping from dad boss's Gin and Tonic, I got sent back upstairs with the other kids. But... there was a crate of Cuervo at the bottom of the steps. I grabbed one and sipped it down to about 1/4 of the bottle.. I think I got alcohol poisoning, but my parents didn't want to take me to the hospital because .. you know, we're long term (5 years) in a foreign Country, and that might look bad on dad. I sucked it up and puked my guts out for 2 days. I was eating a popsicle on the 3rd day on my second story bedroom watching Pakistani workers digging a new sewer pipe by the side of our house. I puked on them. I never touched tequila for about 20 years after that.

I had to quit drinking beer about 3 years ago.. by guts were killing me. Something with the yeast, hops, whatever. I started drinking wine only. The side of my TV bed skirt looks like a murder took place, I've spilled so many glasses... I've been taken down to a sippy cup (Yeti) with a lid, and suction bottom to prevents knock overs. The wonders and challenges of becoming older.

Sort of on topic of redneck stuff, tomorrow is our states first Elk hunt lottery draw and yup, my name's in the hat. I've been watching them on the website since they were first re introduced and they are incredible but they need to cull some to keep the herd size managed for the area it's in so hello hunt. I'm just not sure how I'll drag a 1,200 pound animal out of the woods with a walker :bigjoint:. Thankfully we're allowed to bring helpers if we win and I have 2. There's only 5 winners and every redneck in VA applied including me so the odds ain't great.

Best of luck in the hunt! If I were a bit closer I’d help ya with the transport…
