Lets get the pics out of the way first
I have fitted some panda plastic to the DWC.
(pics 54,55)

Now the curling i took a pic of the curling on the leaves, only two of the 6 plants have curling leaves, and its got worse on these i am not too worried tell you why in a min. (pic 58)

So now my big cock up i should not have gone to full strength nutes, i knew this really but just did not listen to me. So here are the pics (pics 56,57)

dam nute burn already i am used to doing something and seeing the results in like 3-4 days but in hydro it is about 10 hours since i added the nutes and already i got burnt.

Ooops so like i said i had 22 litres of water ready to flush i think i got it early on so i will not be flushing i have changed the water and gone back to a low nute mix. also i am stopping using the furmulex foliar spray as this is also a nute. i will be spraying with plain ph'ed water from now on. they should be getting all they need from thier roots.

20 litres of water

40 mils of nute, 2mil a litre (full strength is 7mil, 140mil to 20 litres)

Did not add h2o2 will be leaving this for now and seeing if the curly stops if it does i owe S/panda some rep.

Ph was 6.8 added 0.17mils ph down ph now at 5.8

So i will leave putting extra nute in for the next week and just top up with the low nute mix.

any comments i think i need a boot up the arse.

thanks B. i will see if Email will pop in and see if he has any ideas, if satman's newbie tip page is anything to go by he will.

so here's the update

2008-07-26

PH 6.0 added .03mil ph down ph now 5.8
The burn has not got any worse so I did get it in time, will bump up the nute by adding an extra bit of nute on Tuesday I will see if I can borrow the EC pen and aim a little lower 1.75ms we shall see.

The curling I have noticed on one of the soil potted plants so it’s not a problem with H2O2 as that plant has not had any, thank you though S/panda. I am starting to think it may have something to do with the seeds they may have been immature or some kind of mutant due to a stressed mother. It is only affecting 2 of the hydro and 1 in soil but I have 2 mutants they are growing twisted and they have only grown there first saw toothed leaves, these I am going to kill off over the next week I don’t know why I have even kept them this long. As an afterthought here’s a pic of my little mutant. (Pic 62)

I have had a problem today it’s the f**k**g heat it’s baking here my room temp I have struggled keep my room temp below 86f/30c and my res temp is up to 78f/26c. Went to town and got an amazing deal, I found a Holmes box fan for £8 here is a link to it. (Amazon.co.uk: 30 cm Box Fan: Kitchen & Home). Well happy, going to fit it as an intake fans at the back of the room its remote control so I will not have to crawl past my plant to alter the setting. Here a pic any way. (Pic 63)

I have been spraying my grow room walls to raise humidity but with the kids being off school I won’t be able to go in there so much so I hung a towel in there I like to call them water sails it keeps the room at about 60%rh it could be a bit higher but it will do for now, I used one in the last grow but it was a lot smaller than this. I have been thinking (I know it’s rare) should I be Ch’ing the water for it as I do the spray? Here’s a pic (59)

The plant are looking ok they have started to put out here nodes now, yesterday they were just little leaves but now I can see the little stems. I will take some pics later of this.

Some pics from this morning (pics 60, 61)

11pm update
Temp is coming down now it at 78f and the res temp is down to 72f not great but its better. Hope it’s dull tomorrow sorry any outdoor up growers, roll on winter if we get one.

So here are a couple more pics taken 11pm (pics 64, 65)

Also a close pic of the node growth (pic 66)

[FONT=&quot]So that it for today going to catch up on some other thread now. thanks for popping by

very nice man!! I would think that any water you have in there that has no aeration would have a chance to get stagnet so I would change the water in towel bucket pretty regularly.. Couldn't hurt to do so anyway..

it's surprising but it has drunk about 3 litres of water in 24 hours i put 5 litres in there so i don't think it will have time to go stagnant by tomorrow after noon, it will be near empty then i will rinse out the bowl and wash the towel in hot water, the one i used in my last grow which was in a tent was a mini version of this i used a handkerchief and a cup and that worked so i just up scaled.

yea if it is taking up that much water I would imagine that just naturally you would end up changing the water a good bit.. didnt consider that before I posted.. Ya know that towell idea would be a great post for the tips&pics thread that satman started!

i was a southpark fan up to when butters came into it and since then i have not watch that many of the but i will be looking out for a better towel. i was thinking if i did large ice pops like a litre bottle and put one in every 12 hours it might help with the temp on hot days. i will post it as a tip later.

db - thanks for the kind words - i really appreciate the vote of confidence!

kulan - the only thing i have to say is your plants look great and i think you did a terrific DIY. The only advice i would have offered is things you took care of anyway.

If your plants don't react badly to 72 degree reservoir, I wouldn't worry too much about it. But i will say the only way i could get my reservoir temps down is with a chiller. I tried adding blocks of ice periodically through the day but that did not work all that well and was a tremendous pain in the ass.

thanks Email, as this is my first attempt at hydro it's nice to have a experianced hygrower check to see if i had made any mistakes.

i am now looking at DIY res chiller and ac unit in one here's a link.

https://www.rollitup.org/grow-room-design-setup/23285-homemade-c-tank-chiller.html

but in stead of a ice box i was thinking a portable fridge. oh no i see another project on the way. after fitting the new intake fan into a box and putting a proper extractsion system in place, then the a/c res chiller then 600w hps light.

when some one said to me "it's a mad hobby you end up spending a lot of time and a lot of money but it's worth it." now i understand what they ment.

This has to be the cleanest set-up I have seen, get those crumbs off the plastic it really lets you down!!!

Just pulling your leg bro, looks fantastic, nice job.

i know but it hard to wipe that it's got the clay balls under it and when i wipe it i can feel them rolling about and i don't want to damage the roots, THANKS for the comment thou.

With the kids being off I have very little time to update during the day but I can still nip in to take the pics so I will be going a daily update from now on. And I will only be on late evening up time.
I have been reading up a bit and I have decided not to top up every other day and go to every 3 days, as this can promote root growth.

Ph 6.0 added ph down .025 now 5.8
Temp gone mad 82f
Res temp 78f
Humidity 55-60% could be better but it will have to do for now if it gets worse I will add another water sail.
Going to fit new fan today see if it helps.
Pics (pics 67, 68)

Couple bits of damage to the leaves first this (pic 69)

a few leaves are showing this but this is the worst, this I believe could be nute burn or from the spray I was using.
And this (pic 70)

I think this is Phosphorus (P) deficiency or over watering (one of the air stones were lose in the tank so that plant might not have been aerated properly. so I will see if it get worse by tomorrow and then think about what to do.

11pm update

I have fitted the new fan into a box the back of the room, knocked a bigger hole in the wall this leads to a small space under the stairs which have a external vent, I need some more sealant to seal the box so it’s not sucking air from the room, also I converted a 6” clip fan to a extraction fan its working a lot better than the pc fan I had running.
All temps have dropped but that is because it’s cooling down a bit outside but it’s still toasty.
My room is running between 4-6f higher than the temp outside. I am just hoping the weather turn for the worse.
This is the grow room now the box, needed painting white after the box has been sealed (pic71)

This is the quick extractor fan I used polystyrene boards, it’s easy to cut and can be put in placed with double sided stinky tape but I only had a few scraps knocking about so it trough but it is working. (Pic 74)

Plants pic (pic72)

As you can see the temp under the lights is higher than the room it’s about 90f I need a fan on the light unit I think.

Here’s the root system (pic 73)

I am a bit concerned about the front left plants root on the right at the top of the main roots it looks a bit brown I cannot tell if it’s some scum from the water or if it’s something worse I will have to look in to this.
I am quite happy with how it’s going at the moment I have noticed that the plants in hydro have closer nodes and the main stem is a lot thicker. These are going to be a lot bushier than the last batch.

Those roots look great! Slime is what you really want to watch out for - brown and slimy... yuck! But anyway -your roots look nice and white and fuzzy. Nothing to worry about there.

And a few yellow leaves here and there aren't going to hurt anything. They'll either drop off or you can cut them off when they're over 1/2 dead.

i think the safety of the roots is more important than wiping up the plastic. save the bulk of the cleaning for after the grow cause it won't be long before you can't even see the plastic because of all the foliage.

It is OK for your pH to fluctuate a little bit. in fact, i think the plants may benefit from a little fluctuation (like 5.4-6.3 - nothing too high or too low).

you're doing great - don't worry yourself too much!

thank email i really appreciate your input

i was thinking i was going wrong some were but i think i might be a bit paranoid as i have seen a few grows on here go tits up in like 24-48 hours so i am apprehensive now especially since the nute burn it happens so quick compared to soil.

pH fluctuation it is beneficial as it would make some of the other nute like Mn available which actives at 5.6 is my understanding right?

i am thinking i am taking 4 of these plant and putting them in 4 seperate home made oxy pots, i don't want to just get rid of the two other so i am going to put the in to hempy buckets.

the person who was going to buy my seedlings has had his mind changed by his g/friend so it looks like i will be growing in soil again as well it might get a bit crowed in there soon
