Hey so I was looking for a new soil mix to try and ran across an entire pallet of this stuff at Lowes for $2.99 a bag on sale (winter)

I went ahead and bought close to 100lb's of the stuff.

I mixed the soil in a 50 gallon bin with about 20% perlite when I got home. The soil looks very clean and isn't too airy like alot of Lowes/wal-mart potting mixes. I've been having a hell of a time finding soil this winter that doesn't break the bank.

Check it out, what do yall think? I was curious when it said fertilizer on the back, but it's saying the ferts are from Feather Meal, Bone Meal etc.

I think it is a steal! Great price. I have used Jiffy seed starter and it was awesome. $2.99 a bag is a steal. That had to be wrong...

it needs alot of nutes added to it and the bark and other stuff will only hold in moisture making it prime country for fungus gnats.

You always get what you pay for.

FUngus gnats are non-existant here man, cap full of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water always kills my larvae problems. I was looking for a soil that I could use with my ferts rather than waiting for soil to run out of fert before using my own. What would you recommend I add to it other than my standard Jack's Classic w/micro nutes during veg?

I think you got a sweet deal. I've used the Jiffy starter as well and it's clean, works good. Dammit now I've got to take a trip to Lowe's lol.

Yeah man, dig in the back where they palletize everything for the winter. Most soils I found where on sale for the winter. I probably looked like a retard for digging around in pallets when it was 27 degrees outside, but hey, I certainly had no competition out there, lol!

Indoor pot farmers with no shame unite! lol

Smart Man...
I use Kelloggs Patio mix from Home Depot for $4.97 a bag, 1.5 Cu Ft. They had a rebate deal at $1.00 a bag off, also if you buy 30+ bags you get it at $4.37 a bag which equals $3.37 a bag. Still can't beat $2.99 a bag, but Kelloggs is a much better soil. Has Bat Guano, Chicken Manure, Lime, Sea Bird Guano, Peat Moss, some kind of Oyster shells or something like that, and some otrher goodies in there.
I mix with Fox Farms O.F. ($9.50 a bag here in California + tax) 50/50 with another 10%-15% perlite added. I have great results using this mix.
Good luck with the grow...

That sounds good. My Depot doesn't have Kellog's but maybe I'll ask 'em to order it. :)

Yeah, right now my Lowes/Home Depot are lacking, the Jiffy is the best soil I've found this winter local. I'll look for the Kellogs this spring when they bulk up their selections.

That mix looks awesome man Treemansbuds!

the soil looks good for the price, if it was stored outside though then thats most likely why so cheap. the ingredients look good besides the bark in it but it should be fine.

In my noobness I never knew they made a suppliment like that. I'm googling now. Reason I don't use FF soil is because I can't get it local and shipping is a bitch.

Thanks! +Reps sir!

Edit $8.00 a bag on amazon, how much would you recommend for about 5 cu feet of that Jiffy soil I bought. (5cu feet is how much I mix in my 50 gal bin, about 50lbs of soil)

i just pour a bit into my 50/50 mix I spoke about earlier. I'm guessing about a cup to every 1.5 to 2 cu. ft. So 5 CU Ft I'm guessing around 3 to 3.5 cups should be good.
Good luck, glad to help...
