I believe we can be energy independent. But whoever leads the way will be called an evil prick by many.

For instance, if police set random road blocks and pulled all illegal vehicles off the road, at least 5 percents would disappear. At the same time deport all illegal aliens. Then lock up all found criminals. With 5 percent less cars on the road fuel consumption drops by 5 percent. In some urban areas, like Chicago and Houston, the illegal rate, at some times in the week, is 50 percent or more.

But, if a governor or President ordered this to happen? They would be demonized in the press.

Next, let's talk about speeding motorist who waste fuel...

You get the idea. America is NOT serious about fuel savings yet.

Yeah it saves fuel on a 10-speed truck transmission. Not in a modern automobile tranny. Oh, and what about truck lanes? We could save lots of fuel with those, but the public hates trucks. I guess that idea is one that won't work either.

Someday, before I die, America will become serious about fuel conservation.

Did you know nitrogen in tires saves lots of fuel? Go in to your Firestone dealer and ask them to "fill her up!". Tell me how they look at you.

The faster you go the shorter time you are on the road....an overlooked fact when considering fuel economy.....not to mention the faster you go, the more time you have at the home and at the office......libs would love to deprive us of that home time; they can babysit a little longer....the libs would max us out at 45 if they could.......take away your car and make you ride light rail, if they could....

I'd say liberals would prefer that you stay at home and telecommute to work, using no gas at all. And grow some of your own food. And make your own electricity with solar panels or wind turbines so you don't use electricity powered by coal plants. All decent goals, in my opinion. But yeah, going 90 mph and spewing out extra CO2 to kill the planet just a little quicker (which affects us all), that's doesn't seem real nice. It's like giving the finger to everyone else on the planet, showing you just don't care about anyone but yourself.

At least with liberals calling the shots, you won't be having all your communications tapped, your children *might* have a planet to live on, and all the other shit that the conservatives have broken or allowed to degrade in the last eight years (electrical grid, road system, schools) *might* get repaired. All the conservatives want to do is give the oil companies more land (which they never asked for), when the oil companies haven't even looked at all the millions of acres they've already been given, so we can keep churning out CO2 at a high rate and destroy our planet. Brilliant. Oh, and the conservatives don't want our soldiers to get a new GI Bill. Way to support the troops, guys!

At least with the liberals, your kids just might have a future. With conservatives, well, the odds that there will be much of a future for anyone are a whole lot lower. As dumb as the American people were for electing Bush twice, they're not dumb enough to put another conservative in office after Bush's tenure ends.

Funny thing is, most in this thread have an opinion of T. Boone Pickens By what they read about him on the Internet. (Which he pays people to polish his image) People in my Part of the Country Know what he is about by his actions.

WTF are you driving, an F-15? Because that is about the only thing that will beat me from 60-150. With that overdrive trans, I can do 150@6500rpm and actually the motor will twist to 7500, so bye-bye to you my friend, whoops, I actually slipped and called you friend. I'm sure that's up for debate.

I could drive a Pinto and out run most cars......engine is one thing.....skill is another.....

PS- I'm not talking about a racetrack, Med......there, you'd smoke me......

So, how many accidents, tickets have you had in the last 40 years? I've had none, and I usually drive 10 over the speed limit. except on certain interstates where the speed limit is 70-75, then I only drive 5 over. I've found that in my truck, the difference between 65 and 75 is about 1MPG difference, so 55 would probably be 2MPG. Even at 4.00+, the difference in savings is not worth the time. BTW, in the city, I drive the speed limit.

I've got 1 ticket, ever, and been in 1 accident, ever........I've only been driving for 15 years, though.....these both happened over 10 years ago, however.....and......I almost always drive around 10 over, too, maybe 20 if it is raining........:blsmoke:

Geeze, you're just a kid, around 33 I'd guess. Thats about the age you start becoming aware that there is more to life than what affects you. I hope it is starting to take effect.

And yeah, that was probably the first time in "juvee", as well.....stealing beer from my neighbors back porch fridge......I'm lucky he didn't blow my head off....yeah, yeah....we all can dream.....:evil:
