Bars are good for spread if you compare to 550 clones, but you can get the right, and even better spread with boards if your willing to design based on single boards and have separate drivers for corners, edges and centre. But bars over tight 4 board builds on high power and no spread.
Even with strips, you will see fall-off at the ends and hot spots along the length. Its the nature of the beast. We can try like you suggest, to drive certain locations of the area at different rates via power density. Even rearrange diode density. @Airwalker16 highlights an example in above post #3774.

There are going to be compromises. What is optimal mounted at "x" height, might show marked difference between centre and edge numbers if mounted at "y" height. It can be done, just down to the intended application. Mounting height seems to be the determining factor.

What size tent? 4x4?
Yezzzir issa 4x4. Pushing over 500w stressed out two out of the three plants a bit, the purple one was loving it though. I’m sure with the right light hungry strain and 600w, the yield would be quite impressive. The light has the capability of doing 720w which I doubt it will ever see. She gets a little toasty in the tent at those levels lol

The layout I went with still makes me smile. Rock solid colas from edge to edge, corner to corner. Can’t beat that. If anyone is thinking about going with separate heat sinks, don’t think, just do it.

Have you ever mapped it out with a meter, par or lux? And what are youre standard power levels, corner versus centre?

The light im building my friend deals with these issues by having separate driver for centre and sides.

Amen to all of that. But in the end it micmght be splitting hairs.

I haven’t mapped it out yet, I planned to have my buddy come over to map it with his apogee but he was busy and I had plants that needed to flip so well have to wait another 8 weeks. I plan to get him over once I install the T5 units to get a good idea of what the spectrum and intensity levels look like with the UV on and off.

I start at 400w total and ramp up over the first 3-4 weeks. Centre boards at 120w and the outer boards at 140w. I adjust according to plant responses.

I plan to get him over once I install the T5 units to get a good idea of what the spectrum and intensity levels look like with the UV on and off.

I start at 400w total and ramp up over the first 3-4 weeks. Centre boards at 120w and the outer boards at 140w. I adjust according to plant responses.
Sounds about right. 20% or so less in the middle, either by less diodes or less power.

If you compare this approach to a big strip build in complexity this is just so much easier.

Unfortunately not. UPS mixed up delivery. Somebody near me has two sets of lights... and I have their driver. So it seems.
I will be running the numbers with a apogee 500 this weekend on them. I will pass the info on to you.

Absolutely correct about mounting height. Even with bars there is a sweet spot.

When I was running three Bava boards in a 4x4 I did similar. Middle one run lower.

You doing the MJ-650 with the Apogee?!?!

If so nice! Thinking of picking up an Apogee MQ-500. Let me know what you think of the whole thing when it’s done if you have time.

Yeah, they they call them Majo’s. 10 bars each, 800 watts. 3000k. Left side has 660nm added, right side has the 660/730/385nm additions.

Unbelievable compared to my old HPS and MH from back in the day let me tell yah.
