The Great RIU LST Thread. Low Stress Training

I too am doing LST on my girls but I didnt start out to. I had to LST when my girls started to get too tall for their box and were burning themselves on the lights.

Nuttin fancy just some cotton twine and electrical tape. I also use what I have on hand.

First pic shows the girls with their tie downs. They were about 7 weeks old at this point.

Second pic was taken the other day. Just one of the bud sites that have developed.

I have learned a lot from this grow, my first. I even broke one of the main cola stems! Wrapped the break with electricians tape and prayed like hell... Luckily she repaired herself and is as good as ever.

The strain is Aurora Indica from Nirvana.

Very nice. Way to grow! Are those topped too, or just tied down? Nice little bushes. Thanks for sharing.

Yes Sir! LMAO! Whatever it takes to get some good dank in me and the missus will be done. I was checking on them a little while ago and I noticed that some of the pistils have started changing color and the buds are becoming sticky to the touch. Man I can't wait! I know patience is a virtue but on this my patience is wearing thin

Haha! I know what you mean the wait is BRUTAL!

We've taken to using coated paperclips to train ours. Easy to bend/hook them together.

I didn't intend to do any fancy stuff my first grow, I just wanted to get through my first grow without killing off the plants! ;P One of my girlz early on decided to take off like a... well, weed! She's a Strawberry Cough. So I did some reading on here and decided that the only way to keep her in check was to tie that beotch down! She's a very kinky girl too... cause she loves it! Crazy how much more plant mass there is with her than the other three.

I'm like most of you. Use what is available... 12 gauge house wire. I'm doing a CFL grow, but the girlz get a day or two every week in the socal sun.

Any critiques on how I've done so far on the tie down.

I figured a Scrog is a form of low stress training. This is a pic I uploaded last night. I have better ones, but its giving me a hard time. This is White Widow in a DCW tub with a 430w Son Agro air cooled light. There are 5 plants of 2 different phenotypes in the screen.

I am no expert by any means but they look good to me. I have found, on my first grow, that it is important to be in touch with ur plants. If you try something new....watch the plants, if they dont like it they will let u know pretty fast. If they are vibrant and green and growing then ur ok..... If not then stop doing what ur doing and try something else. MJ is a very hardy and forgiving plant. It will speak to you and u will know if u r doing wrong......... Just my 2 cents worth. I have a rediculously detailed grow journal on another site. I tried to copy and paste, but the picture links didnt work. Sometime this week I'll go through the trouble of copying and uploading. Only problem is the journal has like 200 pictures and this site says only 100 allowed. Also, Is there any way to have larger pics? 600x600 doesnt really let you see the detail in my pics.

Someone mentioned that when doing LST you should veg longer. How can you tell when she is ready to go to flower?

Nice looking plant! The BEST time to flower IMO is when the plant shows full maturity in veg. IOW flower after it has show sex (pre-flowers), and has begun producing alternate nodes.
But the amount of time most indoor growers veg is usually completely dependant on how much room they have. Thats why I like LST, you can vegg longer (to maturity) without going over your size budget.
