I have read quite a bit about ppl theorizing about using the time release soil but has anyone actually used it? and what happens?

I'm using MG's organic potting mix, but EVERY (and I mean every) single other potting mix I found was time-release pre-fertilized potting mix. I bought all my plant stuff at Lowes.

I probably wouldn't use it for indoors. Outdoors in a far away place where I couldn't give it care all the time, then maybe.

i have used the potting soil with time released nutes in it and would not recommend it to anybody. i started from seed in it and had nothing but trouble, the thing is it has too much nutrients for a small seedling and when i used it i was adding nothing but water and still getting nute burns and even had a few die on me due to this. this soil may be alright for maybe clones or plants a lil more developed but not for a young pot plant thats for sure. Alot of other people dont use it just for the fact that you cant control what nutrients your plant is receiving and when your plant is receiving them, and yes if you go to a lowes or walmart thats all you will find you will either have to make your own potting mix like i do or go to a hydro shop and get a "soiless" mixture there because u wont find many at department stores. hope this helps this is just my own experience

Just some idiot
I used it, all my plants looked like crap so I transplanted to Fox Farms Light Warrior and everything looks good. Problem is you have no control over the "time release part" and you really can't get it on a nute schedule. Although some people use it and get good results I found it pretty bad for me.

I use only miracle grow moisture control. Its time released ferts that also has water absorbant crystals that suck up water so helps you not over water then if the soil or temps hit certain criteria the balls explode releasing the needed mositure.Awesome soil.Works greats gets my 3 inch clones to 3 feet in under 35 days everytime. No need to use nutes for 30-45 days just water and keep lights on.Never a burnt leave.Other types and brands have effects I dislike scotts sucks and other miracke grow bag soil seems to have issue especially thier potting soil.Use the moisture control only

From reading different threads on this i think the best way is either a proper soil mix bought specifically for growing weed or a standard potting compost mixed with perlite which in turn gives you complete control of the nutes

I've tried MG and dont like it. Also the ph is off for pot.
I've been using "coast of maine" organic soil lately with very good results.
To this I add, some peralite, worm castings, bat guana (for flowering) and a touch of peatmoss. This works nicely!
You can check out there site to see if its available near you.
Peace

i used it with three seeds, and all three got nute burn, i had to transplant into a half slow release fert soil and half perlite. that did the trick.

All I use at this point (cause I'm broke atm) is the Miracle Grow time realease shit you are all complaining about. It actually works very very well once you learn how to use it and is easy as pie.

You don't start a seed in it, actually you shouldn't start any seeds in any soil but that's another debate.

Start in Peat Pellets, whether it's clones or seeds.

Transplant to soil when it has a good rootball and can handle nutrients.

If the plant shows a little burn, ignore it.

Water only when dry, and not too much.

You don't try to flush it. (releases more nutes)

That's it... Water when it needs it and don't add a god damn thing. :)

Of course just about anything else is better, and for the last 20 years prior I never used such cheap stuff, but when you're broke nothing is cheaper or simpler. It actually works very well and I've not lost a plant yet, but when I first tried it I was bitching about it and mad as hell because I was trying to use it like normal soil. That doesn't work.

like Meds said...the soil seems to be working...can't water to much because since its time release (i think thats why people is complaining, they love to water their babies and the result was burn).... i germinate then pop them in MG mixed half and half with this other soil i have... if you see a little discoloration... its nothing... unless its a more serious problem other than MG... maybe time to transplant? PH? windburn? water when completely dry... i use clear containers and wrapped the sides... so i can look at the roots and see if their is any moisture still at the bottom because the finger in the dirt method doesn't always work... and whatever moisture is left and if the roots can reach it, i'm not touching it....and with MG, it helps to see when the dirt is dry, so you won't have that PH problem from overwatering

I got this Mg potting soil from a near by place and it says it's a continuous release is that different then time release or is it good to start seedlings in and add Mg perlite and vermiculite or what?
