Topping Mephisto autoflowers

Hey,

I'm currently growing Grape Walker Kush and Skywalker. Closing in on 3 weeks since sprout and both plants are working on 5 nodes, popping on the 6th. Considering topping once in the next day or so. Thoughts on doing that? Has anyone done it to those phenos in particular? The GWK seems to be growing better than the skywalker currently but both are doing well. Slight nute burn from the FFOF soil but nothing to write home about right now. Also have a bit of a nitrogen toxicity on the GWK which is manifesting in some clawing and dark green leaves but growth seems unaffected at this point.

Never topped before and I know it can get a bit iffy with autos so I thought I would ask to see what y'all think.

Thoughts are to clip under the 6th node and then do LST for the rest. Whatcha think?

Cool. So chopping after the 5th should be fine. Haven't done any LST yet so that's the next thing to try to flatten it as much as possible. My tent is only 63" high so I do need as much space as I can get. Not sure what these ladies are gonna do.

Indoors generally after the 4th node, because I have limited vertical space. Outdoors, after the 5th node.
By day 18 to 21 i usually havr the 5th comming in or good sized and that's when i cut between the 4th and 5th. If she doesn't have the 5th by that timeframe, she's not going at the normal growth on average of my plants.

I thought my plants were going slow at first but good to see I'm at a decent place right now. Hopefully the topping works and I don't end up fucking up the yield. Never done autos.

Well, I did it anyway. Clipped above node 5 for the GWK when the lights came on this evening. The skywalker is probably a day behind still working on her 5th so I may top her tomorrow night after darkness.
I am curious to see if topping meant a bigger yield. Can you post a pic?

Funny enough, I think I topped GWK too late and stunted it. Being my first grow, I ran into issues. mostly with PH. Will get some pics later when I'm home. Something I have learned is that with autos, less is more, especially the first 3 weeks. Just let that shit grow and don't touch it. I'm going to start a new grow soon. Considering coco instead of soil.

But definitely learned a lot. PH is key and I actually ended up being too conservative with the nutrients after the FFOF nutes ran out. But alas, such is life.

My experiences as well , did autos last summer and had high hopes. Topping it at about 21 -24 days definitely stunted them. They grow so fast I think anything that delays strong growth is detrimental .

Were actually decent when harvested had a good nose and Trichs. Kinda large not dense buds . Samsquanch OG was the strain. If your a home grower I can see the appeal , I got about 23-35 grams per plant. Was hoping for 3x that .

going to try them again soon full sun outdoors, switched to purple microdot. Supposed to get fairly large 5’ plus plants and can yield well .Not going to top at all might do a tiny bit of LST,

I've been wondering about this too, but haven't ever grown two side by side, one topped, the other not, so I haven't hand anything to compare it to.
You ask, I deliver. Today is about 9 weeks and 2 days from sprout IIRC. GWK look close, maybe a week more. Skywalker I'm really thinking is done. I don't have a loupe so I can't see the trichs but that's just what it looks like. You can see in the lower buds of sky that I finally figured out the PH and nutes and it's nice and green but the top buds were too late to really save. They got real crispy and brown. I also had a heat issue and realized in my environment, I can't run the light more than 60-70% or the temps get too high. At 70% it doesn't get higher than 81 for the most part. 83 only during some hot moments which seems to be the top range of what is acceptable. Thoughts on when to harvest? (2 more weeks? LOL)

That said, GWK smells amazing and has great trich coverage. Skywalker not as much but this was really my fault. We'll see what happens next time. Buds seem very dense from what I can tell. Pics below.

It can go either way but you seem to have done it right. Nice job :bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint:

Bet you were surprised that didn’t have to worry about heights with the autos. Should weigh yield on sky walker and do another one with out topping and just lst and compair

Not at all lol! You're totally right. I'm running Cosmic Queen next and will not touch it for 3 weeks and then will do some light LST. You think skywalker is ready for chop?

If your using a good organic soil I wouldn’t even feed for at least 3 weeks
