Topping Mephisto autoflowers

Yeah slow watering is a must. A wee cheat is to give let’s say 500ml then wait 30 mins. Roll a smoke have a cup of coffee make the next batch then it seems to soak it up really well.

Might help, its just to stop the top layer becoming hydrophobic
I have two plants in airpots. I get my jugs ready and alternate between the 2, a little in one then the other, back and forth until saturated and I get good run-off. I am running the Bugbee peat vermiculite mix and fertigating so I need 10% runoff. It just takes a while. Like you said drink some coffee, smoke a little, water a little and admire the fruits of our labor.

Mephisto Alien Vs Triangle at various stages of growth. I didn't top but I did lightly train. I had 4 of them and I yielded 1LB of hard nugs. I top photos but I don't top autos because they don't have enough time to recover. Would I have yielded more these AvT if I topped them? No. I wouldn't have. I experimented with them and none yielded like the 4 that I lightly trained. Topping autos can go either way and it has everything to do with genetics and almost zero to do with technique. I have about 10 years in experimenting with autos. The most important thing I learned in 10 years of growing autos is to leave them alone and let them grow. I trim out the peach fuzz at the bottom, but that's about it.
That's my dude right there doing his thing

Daz is Night Owl. He used to breed for Mephisto, but left that clown outfit. He's got good genetics as well, and is far less shiesty than the Mephisto salesman. Can't go wrong with either for genetics, but Daz feels smoother to obtain than Stan and co.

Indoors generally after the 4th node, because I have limited vertical space. Outdoors, after the 5th node.
I'm going to add to this because I have new information... In this summer's outdoor grow I topped after the 5th, and I had two plants that were the earliest to mature (looked like Indica dominant hybrids) and they did not like being topped after the 5th. For those two plants it was too late in their faster-than-normal development to top, they should have been topped earlier, which would have landed them after the fourth. Their reaction was to somewhat stunt further growth, and instead of having two nice long top branches they had two very short branches that created a dense leaf cluster that were conducive to mold.

These pictures show the difference between a plant that grew/stretched long after being topped at the 5th, and a fast finisher that did not.

EDIT: just for accuracy sake, since this is a "topping Mephisto" thread, I'll mention that neither of the two plants that stunted were Mephs, one was a Dutch Passion and the other a Fast Buds, but I'm pretty sure the comments would apply...

I'm starting to get tired of Mephisto. Their seeds are a shadow of what they were 3-4 years ago. I chopped some Alien Vs Triangle in May. I'd say I did everything right in terms of growing, drying, and curing...but I'd say she's 10% THC max. I'm guessing of course. It's consistent for all 3 of them I grew though. It's pleasant to smoke but it doesn't have the potency of AvT 5 years ago. Doesn't even have the same terps. I noticed declines in other strains of theirs too. The only one that is unchanged that I have grown consistently is 3BOG. 5 or 6 other strains of theirs were big disappointments recently. I grow a bunch of Rocbud too. Despite all the foxtailing it's really nice after 4 months in the jar. As nice as any auto I have tried when I think about it.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. I saw your comment about Mephisto and I was in the mood for a rant :mrgreen: As you were..

Well, they dis have to "move" the faem in 18'/19' when we went all that time with no CC usage and paypal ONLY banning them for seeds, so i don't doubt one minute that they lost some parents and that could be why all the current games take place. The place they grew at had power from someone elses property and he passed and the kids wouldn't let them keep operating so the moved.
