You could be right. I have the feeling though that the oligarchs are milking the situation for their own gain with complete indifference to the plight of the people, which suggests a disincentive to do different.

Labeling the situation in Ukraine “not a war but a show”, that’s wrong. So just to be clear, those who say there is a war are eating propaganda cause it’s just a show. Russia did not invade Ukraine? Fake news? Is that why Zelensky a former actor is president? You might be on to something… like some sort of radioactive mind control drug. Try starting this thread at post 1, maybe you’ll learn something new.

If our new contestant is consuming a steady diet of that stuff,

Also, our media diet regarding Ukraine is lean on verified fact and long on analysis. I find it takes weeks to get a decent picture of who is doing what to whom over there.

If you want to talk about shows, how about the soap opera that unfolded when the Putin and Prigozhin bromance broke up. LOL what a shit show. Prigozhin threw a hissy fit when he learned that Putin was giving him and his services to another lover as a gift, treating him like he was chattel (actually proving that he was). Oh the pearl clutching Prigozhin broadcast in his video just before he stormed off to Moscow so that the could tell his former lover off! Then Papa Lukashenko appeared onstage to calm the two down and provide a means for them to avoid conflict while not exactly making up. The show ended with Prigozhin "explaining" it was all in the name of protesting injustice and not what it was, an attempted coup.

The next installment is forthcoming. A cliffhanger is coming where Putin's life is in jeopardy. Will his former lover come to the rescue?

Yeah I hear you, no intention to feed. That last part is why I asked clarification. I‘m well aware we’re all influenced to some extend by propaganda, just checking if he’s really suggesting the entire war by itself is propaganda and what we see is not really what‘s happening. We don't have state run news, it's all private here, even "public broadcasting" is an independent service.
I personally don't watch news on tv, i read it, from a variety of source all over the world, and try to draw my conclusions from them.
I use AP, Reuters, Aljazeera, BBC, NYT, NPR, and , with an eye to their bias, fox, cnn, wapo, politico....
And i do not see things the way you do at all.

What settled it for me is that a coupla posters presented reasoned arguments and got no reasoned rebuttal in return, just emotioneering. That’s when I got bored.

We don't worry too much about our global Anglo culture and language being subsumed, but small countries and cultures do, especially those in Europe. We have it in Quebec too, where the French culture is perceived to be under assault and being absorbed by the continental Anglo language and culture. Then there is the urban rural divide that seems to exist everywhere.

This happened to me years ago. Mind you I was wearing a pair of shorts and was enjoying a beer leaned up against the bar. One of the yahoo's from work decided that it would be funny. I just picked up my shorts from my ankles and made myself look presentable again. Everybody was watching the band so no one noticed me being bare-assed for a brief period of time.
