Yo! First time posting so hello...
About to build a grow box 4 foot by 2 foot and 8 high. Want to grow between 8 and 10 plants.
What would be the best light 600w hps or 1000w ?
Any help would be great :joint:

Welcome to RIU, and the wonderful world of cultivating the world's most misunderstood and feared medicines!!!

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

There are MANY more things to consider. The least of which is not cooling and ventilating a box of those dimensions with HID lighting. The only way you may be able to get that many plants to full maturity in that box would be to grow autos.

The BEST way to make sure your first and all growz after are successful is to spend a SHITLOAD of time reading and studying. Building a grow box, planting some seeds under a bunch of light and watering them is just the nipple tip of the iceberg, and 'putting the cart before the horse'

Good Luck and Great Growz!!!

Thanks for replying man! have been reading for a long time and I am pretty much set on a 600w. That would be 81w per foot. Know how I'm going to grow method wise (did a small grow the way I'm doing this one but under a cfl). Classing this one as my first grow proper grow.
I'm going to mainline to 4 tops in maybe 6.5 pots using biobizz all mix and there ferts.
I've just been reading about aim for a gram a watt and just thought 1000w would yield more or will this be overkill.
I know I need to do a few grows to get into the swing of things juSt don't want to waste money on the wrong bulb.
Again thanks for replying :)

Just got 1 question...where are you going to put 8-10 6.5 gallon containers in the grow box you described?

ok, so a little less than 2 gallons per plant... not to be an asshole but, good luck with that.

So after after more research, I am going for 10 litre pots under 600w hps, will be able to fit 8 in my room. I've also read that's 6.5 litre pots under a 600 would yield 2-2.5 oz and that's what I want a plant, so 10 litre should be plenty.

As mentioned, why not go for a dimmable ballast. Mine has 600/750/1000/1150 settings.
Then you have the best of both.

I see a lot of new growers making the same mistake of thinking that more plants = bigger harvest. I do 2 at a time and regularly outgrow a buddy of mine that does 5-6 per grow. Why? Because he just lets his plants do their thing...no training...no regular feeding, high temps and a general 'fuck it, they grow well' attitude. He has 1000w in a 4x4x7 tent. I have told him if he cools the tent and does just 1 or 2 plants correctly...he could double if not triple his yield...does he listen? Hell no!

I have a feeling our friend here will not heed either until he sees that 2.5 oz per plant will quickly become 2.5 oz per grow with that many plants in that space.

To the OP, 1 to 3 plants and a 2-3 month veg will yield you much better quantity as well as quality. Just my humble opinion.

I'm just going by what I have read tbh, and from that I've taken.... less plants, bigger pots, long veg and aim for gpw. Or less plants, smaller pots, short veg and aim for gpw.
I didn't really want to veg for a huge amount of time, so that's why I thought of doing more plants in small pots.
If I am wrong please tell me what would be best way to maximise yield? Although quality of the bud is more important to me.
I will happily take any advice from you guys.

Hey, sorry if I came off a bit like an arrogant A-Hole before. If you do small plants like autos or even just several photoperiod and start 12/12 immediately (although I would wait about 2 weeks to let them root well)...you could accommodate quite a few gurlz. With 600w you should get a very nice pull. If you do multiple photoperiod plants, you may want to take a look at some LST manipulation. I have never grown an auto TBH so I cannot speak to proper training techniques for them (I would not imagine there would be that much difference).

No man you just made me think and read a lot more.
I want to mainline my plants as it sounds like a good way to get more light around the plant and just get dense bud.
Do you think 4 plants in 25 litre grow bags and top to 8 tops would be a better idea then cramming in 8 and topping 4.
I know it is trail and error just curious on what you do. :)
