Im working with a 3ft 3" by 7ft 11" space and im debating on running one 600w hps or 2 400w hps lights with cooling ducts, i just dont know if the 600 will span out longways enough, or if its worth the extra money to get 2 400s because i kno that will work no doubt, lemme know if u think i can fit a 600 in there nicely

i would think 1- 400 will cover a 3 x 3 foot space. maybe 2- 400's if growing vertical (may be a little tight with a 3 x 3). but if i was buying the lights, i would get 1 -600

i have a bigger space and use 400's and wish i had a 600 instead, but i use what i have.

This is what you want - 2 x 600w dimmable HPS ballasts.

Except no imitations.

EDIT: Reread your room dimensions and you want one 600watt dimmable. You can work at 400w and if you decide its not enough later or you want to expand you can just turn the knob and boom 'an upgrade'. 400 watt magnetics are old skool now the 600watt digital dimmable ballasts are around.

Ohhh so yall are leaning towards that 600, i only got four plants goin its all the space i have at the moment, one 600 wouldnt cost that much i just hope it goes longways enough to handle 4 plants in a seven foot long space, just feel the center two plants would get the most light with a 600 althouggh i could rotate them dailey for equal light i soppose but with the 400 i just hoped it would be enough light to obtain the results im looking for, if i have the money i will gladley go with 2 600s caus 400 on two plants is good, but im lookin for great results with what i can afford

hey 1 600 wont work in a 7 foot long space. i think they thought u were in a 3x3 space not the 3x8 foot space. two 400 inline or a couple of 600s would be even better. but using that much light will take a lot of inline fan power to cool it. 2 600s average about 180,000 lumens together and 2 400 would be about 110,000 lumens together. 600s are the way to go. more lumens per watt. but 400s are cheaper to run and buy. also look on craigslist if u want cheap shit. most people try growing and give up and try offloading all the cool shit they baught on craigslist for cheap.

or divide the tent into seperate spaces for veg and flower. u could use a 250 for the veg side and a single 600 for the flower side and have a perpetual grow from clones once u get into cloning if u havent already. that way u have a constant flow of bud.

Haha now your speakin my language, i completeely out ruled those 400s thats not enough, my plan was to run two 600s as long as i have enough bread to afford two, also about the cooling im straight with that im running 8 inch ducting and cooling hoods will help a lott in the cooling
process,, im also sucking low weather into the room keeping ot nice an good, its -10 on average out hereso heats no problem haha, an ive already got
that cloning down its about to go from 4 to 20 lol

yeah bro i got 15 cutings in my bubble cloner right now. all of which are starting to root. bubble cloning is the way to go bro. ive had nothing but a 100% success rate with it. even with my $15 homemade walmart cloner. lmao.

but seriously it sucks balls waiting in between harvests if ur out of dank. i hated having to buy it when i was out. made me feel like an idiot for paying for it when it was growing at home. so i set up a perpetual grow. a 2x2 box with 300+ watts of cfls in it for my clones and stuff. a 2x4 tent with a 400 mh in it for the real veg and moms and a 6x4 sealed flower shed i built with the 1000 soon to be 1600 watts of bangin goodness. :) but seriously a 2x3 portion of ur tent with a 250 mh in it for veg and the other side with a 600 or a 1000 hps would be ballin. u would never run out of bud. and u would still have a 5x3 space for flower which would be perfect for a single 600. plus ebay is relatively cheap. u could get a digital ballast 250 mh setup for probably around a hundred bucks ready to plug in and grow. the bigger stuff i would search ebay or craigslist for first before buying new from a store. i made the mistake of starting out with a 150 then a 400 then a 600 then a 1000. lots of wasted money. a 600 will give u a steady base to work with and give u some room for other options if u decide to change ur setup. not to mention lots of lumens.

p.s. i could get rid of the 2x2 box but i need the extra space cuz im overloaded. let the moms get to big. lol.

thats 150 to a 400 ect is exactlyy what happend to me, started with usin floros an a 150 an it was just retarted i got barley any buds on the plant. but about that 250 im runnin a 250 with a seperate ballast right now, the 250 does work on veg, i was about to make the mistake of buyin a 400 hps, fuck that my plan now is 2 600s, ive def thought about having a seperate vegging section i could still keep a decent amount of plants in there even if i closed it off. it would def take a lot of construction time and thinking to get that done but then id have a harvest every few weeks which is straaaight. and even if i did that an only had one 600 goin, id still have that other 600 if i ever need to use it again, u can never have enough supplies layin around. but that 150 i originaly bought robbed me of about 100 bucks, not a whole lot but it just blows, but im real happy i switched from those floro fishtank tubes to a real light, mh is the way to go. but about the 2x2 how many plants do u think i could veg in there? also in my 3x8 room i only got 4 goin, u think i mite be able to fit more? ive thought about it but just decided to go with 4 instead. i always thought about just having 8, side by side in a line i wasnt sure if that would fit tho. theyd be crammed. i need to educate myself a lil more on cloning, ive just been germinating female seeds an growin all organic in soil. never messed with hydro. soon ill be expanding my space an ill be able to fit 20 flower 20 veg if i really wanted to haha

my 2x2 fit a bit of plants in it. normally about 6 good sized ones in one gallons. a couple of them in two gallons. if i took the shelf out id be able to fit more. but since i got the 2x4 tent that i use for veg now so i use the 2x2 for nothing but clones in one gallons on the bottom now and the top has one 68 watt cfl in it for my bubble cloner and cloning tray. i should be able to pack all 15 of my clones in it with the 1 gallon pots hopefully. till they get bigger. then its on to the tent after about 2-3 weeks depending on how big i let them get in there. its about 4 1/2 feet tall. so the bottom portion is about 3 ft tall and the top is about 1.5ft. cost about 40 bucks at home depot to build minus bulbs. but ebay will hook u up with those. she has over 300 watts of cfls in her. both color temps for a nice color spectrum. 67k and 27k bulbs.

The difference in price between a 400w and 600w light system is so little
if i were you, i would buy 2x600 watt systems, as it gives you more choice on what bulbs you can run

you can always run 400w bulbs in the 600w systems if you want to save power or lower heat
you can start them with 2x400w then switch to 600w when heavy budding sets in

if you get 2x400 w systems you will be limited to 400w or lower power only

although 2x400w will cover the 7ft space you have, 2x600w will be better aslong as you deal with the extra heat etc from 2x 600
one thing is certain you will need 2 lights to cover 7ft, 1 light will only cover 3-4 ft

good luck :)
