Not sure if it counts exactly as hempy/hydro but I'm experimenting with Blumat Tropf watering system in a coco and perlite medium. Had the plants well established via drain to waste before switching over to the blumat and flipping to 12/12. We're a few weeks into flower now and the plants haven't seemed to have skipped a beat. Anyone else use these? Foresee potential issues?
5 gal reservoir w/ airstone
GH trio, koolboom, rapidroot, floralicious plus - ph 6.5

Feeding two 5 gal with two carrots each and two 2 gal pots w/ one carrot.

I've been growing hempies in 4 gallon square buckets ... top fed ... Botanicare Ready Gro Moisture Blend over 2" of River Rocks. I'm looking at switching to 5 gallon round pails for my rebuild with the same medium and I was looking for a way to keep the coco from mixing with the stones in the reservoir as much as possible. I was thinking of using some mesh screening between the layers that would keep the different media separate but still allow the roots free access to the reservoir.
Any suggestions on what mesh size would be appropriate?

I like the idea of river rock in the rez. I'm guessing 1/2" minus in size. Just use some small pea gravel after getting above the hole. It's the same as using chunky perlite in the rez and a top coat of fine pelite like I do.
Then again a little coco in the rez really doesn't matter a lot, roots will dive into the rez even if you keep the coco out and that's a good thing.

first time hempy grower. going with a soil core tek with fox farms, transplanting to 5gal buckets filled 3/5ths with 100percent perlite nd mega crop for nutes. my first hempy run so excited will be flowering with 2x600w hps , has anyone encountered any issues with MC ? I have advanced nutes 3 part trio to fall back on but prefer the simplicity as I will be feeding more often.

If it's the new 1 part Megacrop, I found it to be great for veg, but too much Nitrogen for flower so I went back to the GH trio in the flower tent.
Good news is I won't have to buy nutrients for the veg tent for a long ass time.

Edit...
400ppm + 3ml/gal Calimagic with RO water works for me all through veg.

Megacrop has high N, low P and extremely high K ratios when compared to other popular nutes people use.

Here's the new M/C NPK values @ 6g/gal...

This chart has an older version of M/C values, but you can still compare the makeup to the others listed by using their ppm calculator @

Chart listing Jack's 3-2-1, GH, Lucas formula and a few others.
Shout out to @TintEastwood for making it.

I tried adding things to M/C during flower and found it easier just to go back to the general hydroponics trio.

Hope that helps some.

What is your preferred method for cleaning, rinsing, perllite to get rid of the dust? I have a giant bag and It seems like I would need a huge colander to effectley rinse all of it.
Cut a hole in the top corner of the plastic bag of perlite poke smaller holes witha pencil along the bottom of the bag now put the garden hose in the top hole when the perlite runs clear its ready

Raise it off the ground and let it drain over night, no coleander needed
