The SugarBreath is behind the others but it’s been above ground for almost 2 days now
I topped the other 5 last night they seem to be handling it well
And I kicked on the UV and IR last night just to see how they liked it. Turned it off after this photo

It has been a little while since I updated so I figured it’s time, Lots has happened
Look at the healthy roots produced under the GeekBeast 2400!
I transplanted 5/6 to 3 gallon fabric pots.
The SugarBreath is a week behind so I will transfer it in a day or so.
I decided to use straw as a mulch to help keep my moisture regulated in the fabric pots
I gave the 3 gallon pots a pack of beneficial nematodes under the mulch

Thank you it’s my own mix I just keep re-using and re-amending it every grow.
heavy in earthworm castings,compost and mushroom compost,coco coir. Some rice hulls and perlite for drainage. Small amounts of these annendments,Neem meal,alfalfa,soybean meal,fish bone meal,feather meal, insect frass, glacial rock dust,azomite,basalt,gypsum,rock phosphate and probably more

What is your reason for using both azomite and basalt dust? Really the only difference in the two is silica content with azomite containing more silica. Both are volcanic ash, but one happened to hit sand before it cooled. I’m just curious. I always use azomite but I have never found a need for basalt. You use a lot of the same ingredients I do. I just separate my fruit compost bins so that I can add them to specific soils to match the terpenes of the strain I am using. I like to taste the rainbow.

Well let’s say I’ve owned a 10kg bag of azomite for 7-8 years.
I use glacial rock dust pretty heavily though.
It’s such a minuscule amount of azomite in my mixes it’s not gonna over do the silica.
The oyster shell flour and rice hulls are also rich in silica
Edit- I guess I use small amounts of everything possible just for the diversity it brings to the soil.
A lot of these things are added to my compost as it’s being made all season too

Years ago a local hydro shop used to sell granular diatomaceous earth. It was ‘un processed’ about the size of hydroton clay pebbles, great for aeration.
I’ve had that I’m my soil for 10-11years as it slowly breaks down it also adds a lot of silica and trace elements as well.
Another thing I’ve heard recently is sulpher really helps bring out terps and flavours, if you end up using Epsom salt in flower it may affect your taste more than you realize

I posted this in another thread, but high concentrates or magnesium from Epsom salts actually leads to fruit rot. It’s a small article, but it posts additional articles from other universities. I know it’s not cannabis, but I think that the same principles would apply.

Epsom salt does not prevent blossom end rot; it promotes it.
As for terpenes this is something that I am still learning more about, but from my understanding we are what we eat. And the natural way that cannabis developed different terpene profiles is from the soil the original landrace strains naturalized to. So a blueberry weed strain grew many generations in a blueberry patch.
by that logic if you are adding sulphur to your soil then you would be enhancing the garlic/gas terpenes of the strain.
I’m not trying to hijack your thread. I was just drawn in by your light. As I am very interested in the UVB spectrum now and trying to figure out how I am going to implement that into my future grows and I like your soil recipe. I’m always looking for ways to improve mine. Just most people don’t seem to know what azomite even is and you’ve jumped farther down the rabbit hole than I have. I might try using basalt rocks at the base of my pots in my next grow. I know it won’t break down quickly but the mycelium should break it down slow enough while providing better aeration.

I I transplanted the SugarBreath last night and gave it a pack of beneficial nematodes.
I broke a few nice branches while trying to train and top so there’s gonna be some funky shaped plants

So it’s been a busy week over here.I spent the weekend in Canmore
Everything is going well I changed from the veg spectrum to the bloom spectrum
Everyone have been topped twice,except the SugarBreath it’s been topped once.
I’ve got the soil mixed up for their final transplant into 15 gallon Geopots.

I gave all the 15gallon pots a spray with rainwater to keep the soil moisture levels in check
They are about 2/3 full so I figure that will give me room to transplant the 3 gallon pots and leave extra space to top with the rest of the soil I mixed up for bloom.
Oh and any Canadian residents watching this journal, Rona is clearing out voila organic soil for $1 a bag right now. I grabbed 30 for next season.

Not too much to show I turned the lights up a little bit and raised them, plants are at 420-500PPFD
Watered them all with some aquarium water and did a little more training but I ran out of yo-yo’s so I’ll have to finish tomorrow, Just bent them by hand for now.

Yes your parents were right!
The rice hulls are good aeration until they break down. Once they break down they are rich in silica and other trace/micros.
I wish my parents were still around and farming, I’d like to see what kind of weed my dad would grow lol
