New roi-e720 available in few days. Would this be a better upgrade from 1000w se hps?

oh wow they came out with a more powerful one. i thought it was just the ROI E420 they came out with.

this should put out more light than a SE HPS for sure.

Should actually put out as much as a 1kw DE HPS.... if its true what it says 2080umols.

I might try getting 2 of these on my 4x8 and putting it side to side with the other LED bar lights I have coming to compare them. These guys have the best price outside of Alibaba for LEDs.

Anybody have any first hand experience with Growers Choice 680 or 420?

DE HPS amount of light output...all Osram Diodes....Above 2.5 efficacy.... 3 yr Warranty. All for $1050...seems too good to be true. It Just seems heavy on blue spectrum.

Theres not too much info on GC LEDs online. Would be nice if somebody chimed in.

Theres probably going to be an growlightdepot video coming in where he checks the par and reviews the light. really interesting.

Yeah I dont know if i would believe the 2080umol claim but they do look like real decent lights that would blow away a single ender.

You should also take a look at
before you pull the trigger
2159 ppfd with 700w? 3.1 efficacy?

I dont think thats realistic at this point in time. If the Fluences and HLGs of the world are getting 2.7 or 2.8 with all their resources and top bin diodes with contracts from Osram and Samsung. How is this company dumpstering them with a 3.1 efficacy rating? Sounds bogus.

edit: I also just saw its 1752 diodes. The Gavita claims 3300 diodes. Hows it going to put out more light than the Gavita with half the diodes.

Excerpt from LED Growlights Depot's sales page:

"By far the most powerful LED in its class with a standard PPF of 1850 umol/m2/s and a “BOOST” mode that raises the output to 2050 umol/m2/s, for professional cultivators who demand ultimate light output."

Is this supposed to appeal to HPS growers who are used to having the option to go from 1000 to 1150 watts?

ya its for DE guys. 1k DE bulbs claim to dish out 2100umols. So for them to say it dishes out compareable to 1200w DE HPS is just not true.

GC saying their 720w fixture dishes out 1850 umols seems realistic.

Ive never turned the knob above 1kw on my DE fixtures though. nor have I heard of anybody in my hps circle of friends going above 1kw. When I buy the bulb it states "1000w Double Ended Bulb" so I never went above 1000w on the fixture.

Why don't you contact them and ask? They're in upstate NY. Or is it easier to just have opinions?

why would I call them? Im not in the business of confronting people for lying about their products.

Im not attacking you. Im just saying that the info Mammoth Lighting provides about the specs just doesnt match up with the light output.....so anybody thinking about purchasing mammoth should think twice before coughing up that amount of cheese for it.

This quote is from the small print on the bottom of the spec sheet.

"PPF numbers compiled (spec sheet actually says complied) using our in-house integrating sphere measurements and typical spectroradiometric data for each LED to determine the fixture performance. Actual photometric results may vary within the LED's manufacturer's bin tolerance."

So, no third party evaluations. Not yet anyway.

First, you need to be sure of YOUR facts before stating that people are lying. I think a more accurate statement would be that based on other lights you have looked at you don't understand how they have achieved these results.
Second, I don't want to hijack this thread but you have a restricted profile and I can't message you. If you want to take this off line please start a conversation.

And PPF is NOT the same as PPFD. They claim 2159 PPF which would then be reduced by some percentage to get the PPFD depending on the area of the grow. For a 4x4 or 5x5 that would be somewhere between 1700 and 1800. Quite doable with today's technology

The "boost" mode of the ROI-E720 light lifts the wattage draw from 720 to 800 watts and the PPF from 1850 to 2050 μmol/second (further down the OP's linked sales page PPF output is listed as 1870-2080 μmol/second, so seems like there's a small discrepancy there) while still maintaining a system efficacy of 2.56-2.57 μmol/joule (according to Grower's Choice). Depending on a few factors, that seems well within the realm of possibility.

Everything Ive stated is taken off that page you linked. From the diode counts to the umols to the watts they claimed.

1750 diodes isnt putting out 2159 PPF.

the hlg 650r uses the exact same diodes and has 2592 diodes and puts out 1770 PPF. You cant put more light by using less of the same diodes.

Anyways, I dont care what you or others buy and I didnt mean to personally attack you...if i did.... I apologize. Its just what they claim makes no sense. Ive done research on Mammoth lighting a few months ago and I decided since then to personally steer clear from them.

Lets say you were to full blast this light to the absolute maximum with its boost mode and run it for flower 12 hrs everyday? Do you think itd take a toll on the driver quicker or push the diodes too hard and reduce its lifespan of the usual ~50k hrs LED claim....compared to running it 12 hrs on the normal 100% 1800umol?

I havent heard of an LED grow light having a boost mode before lol.
