New roi-e720 available in few days. Would this be a better upgrade from 1000w se hps?

What would the savings be vs a DE? 200 watts and bulb change? So like 20 buck a month savings?
ya lol its not much. Lets say you swap your bulbs every year thats $90 each bulb you save. You save some on your AC as well....they for sure wont put out as much heat as a DE gas bulb. Lets say 20% there too?

The even spread is really nice too if you have low ceilings. The spectrum may or may not be better than the ones DE HPS bulbs give out. I wouldnt go full blast on it though right away. Id test out the 720w for a run or two before going boost mode.

Idk how long it would take for you to pocket that money saved for your electricity after dropping $1050 on it. Instead of just getting a DE fixture for like $300-350 with the bulb. Probably guesstimating like 3 years assuming you pull the exact same as you do with your DE fixtures.

I have no doubt youll pull some serious numbers with these LEDs per light though. If Gavitas umol is 1700 and people are pulling 3+ with it and this is putting out 2000+ umols on boost mode and you have your nutes and temps and co2 dialed in. oh lordy...pushing the plant to its limit.

All the top end DE bulbs are putting out 2050-2100umol at 1000w. If you only grow in winter (like I typically do) the extra heat is a good thing, goes to heating the house. Id be looking at a good decade before the savings caught up...

Also curious as to know what people think of GC spectrum graph, very high in blue. Considering 2 of the 420s but not confident enough to pull the trigger yet.

Anybody have any first hand experience with Growers Choice 680 or 420?

DE HPS amount of light output...all Osram Diodes....Above 2.5 efficacy.... 3 yr Warranty. All for $1050...seems too good to be true. It Just seems heavy on blue spectrum.

Theres not too much info on GC LEDs online. Would be nice if somebody chimed in.

Theres probably going to be an growlightdepot video coming in where he checks the par and reviews the light. really interesting.
I have two of them and so far they are awesome lights

Lets say you were to full blast this light to the absolute maximum with its boost mode and run it for flower 12 hrs everyday? Do you think itd take a toll on the driver quicker or push the diodes too hard and reduce its lifespan of the usual ~50k hrs LED claim....compared to running it 12 hrs on the normal 100% 1800umol?

I havent heard of an LED grow light having a boost mode before lol.
I read this on Migro's Instagram page when I was looking into his new Aray fixtures. Just one person's account, and I haven't looked through their posts to see if they described in more detail what happened to their light.

The ROI-E420 does not have a "Boost" mode option.

Hey @TheHouseOfGreen420 maybe this will be of interest to you too.

melted diodes???? That had to be a fault on the customer. Well I'm still gonna take the risk and get 2. That warranty better hold lol

@larrypizzimp93

This is actually now the second time I've seen a complaint on the 420 for melted diodes, first time on reddit 10 days ago, i am now going to steer clear.

Definitely a learning curve when growing with LED only. Bummed I had to pull the plug when I had just started getting my environment dialed in. Can't wait to run it veg through flower. Hoping to do a side by side with the 420 and HLG 260 to see how they compare.

Did you end up selling the Spider Farmer boards?

If you do the side by side, do you think you'll cap the Grower's Choice light at 75% so it's a closer match in wattage draw and light output to the 260 watt HLG light, or will you end up running it at maximum power?

Still have both. Plus a few other pieces I accumulated since following into the rabbit hole of growing. I'm currently buying a house and have to have the wiring redone so I'm excited to be able to do a few additional outlets in the room I use for growing as well as adding a few built in environment upgrades
Haven't given it enough thought, likely not a really fair comparison to either light. Plus I hardly have the experience to do it or to do it well enough to argue the results. My current plant which I had humming along finally under the 420 I feel would have trained to at least a 3 x 3 canopy if not larger which funny enough is the claimed coverage for the light. I had it in a 4 x 4 which worked great for the space but the light puts out so little heat I really had to play with things to get the temps where they needed to be, cool spring didn't help. Then I had to pull the plug. :wall: I have plans to finish it outside until the rains come and then hopefully at that point I can have something setup in case it requires more time. Miss the smell of soil and the noise of my indoor grow. Plants provide a vibe to a house like no other..
