I was thinking about a 1000w but I was worried that heat would become a big issue. I don't want to have to get a/c for the tent..

http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-HTG-600w-Grow-Kit.asp

That is the kit that I was planning on getting (with upgrades though) Do you think heat will be a big issue with the 1000w light in that size tent? Thanks again

i have a 4' 9" sq tent and i went with the 600 because i figure it would be too hard to keep cool with a 1000. i used to use a 1000 watt and it definately puts out more heat than the 600! :)

i'm not a handy man kind of guy and didn't want to end up not being able to deal with a heat problem. i pull an average of 16 OZ per crop without even trying. more than enough for my needs! :joint:

That sounds like some good results! How many did you put in the tent to get results like that? The heat issue is what I am really trying to sty away from. I will have the big kahuna hood with a 6" duct fan, a HV 6" inline fan connected to charcoal filter, and a 4" inline fan to pull clean air in. Hopefully the heat stays down, I figure I will set it all up and turn everything on to test heat before anything makes it's way into the tent. Does anyone have any input to the light question I asked?

have you guys heard anything about the agromax dual arc hps/mh bulb? Should I run an all HPS, the dual arc, or MH for veg and separate HPS for flower? Thanks again

I havent used those high tech bulbs.. You definitely want to veg with a blue spectrum like a MH or a T5 or even CFL's
You definitely want to flower with a HPS.

I use a 1000W HPS I dont use the 1000W MH bulb just because its expensive running that light for 18/6 and I usually veg 6-8 weeks so I bought a T5 saves money.

I will be using a digital dimmable ballast so that I can run 50% 75% and 100% power. I was planning on running 50% while they are small and turning it up to 100% when they can handle it. I just can't decide if I want to run the dual arc bulb the entire time or buy separate bulbs for veg and flower. I was reading somewhere that the MH will actually help a little bit in flowering as well? If thats true I will probably run the dual, if not I think I might just pick up the agromax MH for veg and the aromax HPS for flower. Decisions decisions... haha

Yeah they are right some blue spectrum will help.. I know growers who use a T5 and a HPS during flower they call it "supplemental lighting" I know a grower who also uses LED's alongside his HPS too. I wish I could help you more on dual arc I just have no experience using them.

You have been plenty help sir. Thank you, from the things you say in posts I can tell you know what you are talking about so thank you for spending some time with a newb, people on other boards are quick to say search google blah blah.. Much appreciated, I will make a thread here at the end of the month with what I have decided to go with and keep it updated. Now, back to research some more and attempt to make up my undeceive mind.

No worries man just paying it forward, we all were newbs at some point. Just keep asking others will chime in I know a few guys in the AZ thread who are very knowledgeable growers.. Just be patient brotha you will get the hang of this stuff , and like Fat Boy told me years ago " You will be your own dude"

In case anyone cares, from the extent of research I have done it looks like the lumens that are lost from going to a dual arc bulb will be made up by the amount of usable spectrum the dual arc puts off. The dual arc should bring out more of the "fall" colors of the plant during flower as well as create more resin. I am going to give the dual arc a run and will document everything so this forum will have something to go off of. Thank you again for all the help and hope me research can help someone else out as well.

don't waste your time on leds. use 600s and 1000s...there not ready yet and not made for cannabis flowering...i use to work for 3 years for a manufacturer that holds the patients for the tech..we use to laugh when all the pot head thought they could save a buck and are freaked out about people knocking down your door for your 600 watt hps light cuz its drawing two much power...( scam) my 2 desktops at my house draw more power then 2 1000 watt hps...and i could pull 4 lbs with 2000 watts..try that with leds...isnt going to happen...well..i take that back...maybe if you were nasa with a 30 billon dollar budget....
.we did a lot of installs in schools and colleges but that was all grant money..mainly for show and to prolong daylight in greenhouses.. and that is was a safe alternative to hps...high heat...bulbs braking... ext...

Leds work fine for flower but you need to look at actual power draw. 600 watts of actual power draw in a led will grow meds just as well as 600 wattage of hps. Many people advertise UFO lights that out grow 1000 watt lights, this is just bullshit. Watt for watt I think led grows nicer looking meds than hps but you can not look at them for a power savings. When I did an all led grow I averaged 0.8 grams per watt of actual draw. My dad was able to get 0.98 grams per watt. He has been growing for 30+ years and now only uses leds. Not for a reduction in electric bills but due to the lowered temps in his flower and veg rooms. Personally I feel that trichome production is increased in his room since the switch but it may just be due to improved temps. The obvious downside to leds is the cost of quality products, but they do work. I'm using them as supplemental lighting to my hps right now with great results, I would like to use all led but I don't have the funds for 1200 additional watts of led at this time. I will post some bud pics soon

Met some growers at CannaKush contest using 500 watt Blackstars and they are super stoked with them. Which says a lot since they are previous outdoor growers from Norcal.

We are running some 240 watters now. We shall see!

How was the event? I was planning on going but my brother is only 20 and they said it was 21 and over. we ended up going to the uproar tour instead.
