Best LED for a 2x4x5 tent. Looking to replace a 144x5 Mars Hydro Reflector

10k is the resistance. Watt would just be the max power you could put through the resistor for it to work properly. The ones you liked would work but that is 100 of them lol. Radio shack (do those still exist?) would prob have a smaller amount.

Rahz, on the 240-2100 or 120-1400 "B" style meanwells, you mention 10k pots. Mine will be 3 cobs per driver but don't I use a 100k one?
Yes, 1 pot + 1 resistor = 110K ohm resistance to make sure you're maxing the driver out at full power. Another way would be a switch that disconnects the pot when dimming isn't desires.

Best way to power 2 fans with 1 driver is parallel and 1 APV-12-12 should be able to handle 2 120mm fans.

With that much aluminum you don't need no stinking fans. You're buying $100 dollars of metal for a 200 watt lamp. It will be a great lamp. Hit your local hardware store and buy some aluminum angle and use it to bond the two sinks together and create an anchor point for the driver. While you're purchasing the driver get a handful of wago 413s and a 415 for AC and DC distribution, a ring connector that fits the AC wire gauge you're using for a redundant ground, a 10k ohm resistor to run in series with the pot, a piece of shrink tubing, a bag of 7 inch zip ties. Always have some zip ties laying around. :)

Having said all that... adding a fan or couple fans to the lamp would just make it more bad ass. You might only get 1-2% more light from it, but you're looking at 15 watts for two fans? It could be worth it. The lamp you're building isn't maxing things out, it's seriously improving the yield of your current setup while getting extreme performance (64% efficient emitters) from 200 watts in a 2x4. It will be like it's not even there. Benefits of DIY.
Thank you so goddam much for your help, this information is amazing. I'm loving how much there is to learn on RIU. I will get in touch with Jerry from Kingbrite about a quote for the cobs / driver later today.

Just emailed Jerry tonight, but I'm not sure if I'll hear from him quickly since the kingbrite alibaba page says business will resume after January 25th for chinese new year.

@Rahz thanks again for all your help, if this was reddit I would buy you some gold.

My last question before I put in my order is if there is any advantage to running 4 x cxb3590 72v at 1400ma instead of 8 36v at 700ma? I am only running 2-3 plants per run in my 2x4x5. Efficiency is important to me, but I also don't want to compromise on penetration and intensity.

edit: giggity

Yeah like @REALSTYLES said you don't have the # of COBs to different currents down. You can run 8x 36v CXB3590s on an HLG-185H-C700. On that same driver, you could run 4x 72v CXB3590s. The output power would be the same (200w), just a different number of chips and less even spread of the light.

Go with 8x 36c @ 700mA

Why do people wanna run their cobs at 23-25W only? I feel like getting away with just 1 driver is the main reason. I'm going to do 3 separate drivers to run 3 3590s ec. Hlg 120-1400s. That way I'm at least 50-56 watts. Is there an efficient way to run 3 3590s at 1750mas? Or am I just screwed cause there's no 185 1750. Is my next option for 3 only the 240-2100 @ 75-78 Watts?

@REALSTYLES Hey guys thanks for the help, I understand it correctly I think I just typed it weird. I was asking what the difference between 8 36v 3590s vs 4 72v 3590s is and you answered my question.

I heard back from Jerry which is awesome, will place the order soon. Here is his email. I'm guessing I should go with the reflectors over glass lenses from what I read in one of @REALSTYLES build threads, but I don't understand why he is saying I will need 3 drivers for 9 leds.

Thanks for your enquiry!
I am Jerry from KingBrite, nice to support you.

CXB3590 3500K CD 80RA 36V is available in stock, there are 2 solution:

1. Led glass lens:

led + Ideal holder 50-2303CR + LED glass lens KB-HB100-80(diameter 100mm, 80degree)

2. Led reflector:

led + Ideal holder 50-2303CR + Ideal connector 50-2300AN + Reflector KB-D82-90RF(diameter 82mm, 90degree)

MW driver HLG-185H-C700A is available in stock, but you will need 3pcs drivers for 9pcs leds.

Will you use led glass lens or reflector?

I will send you the paypal invoice, so you can see the detail cost, and make payment accordingly.

Pls advise!

I'm going to guess Jerry doesn't build his own lights. Tell him he is wrong. The 185-700 will power 8 (not 9).

haha word that's what I assumed. reflectors are the right way to go tho right?

edit: also, holy shit those nugs are beautiful - you're a pro @REALSTYLES

Jerry doesn't and people should know what to buy before ordering anything because 9 cobs @36v will fit a HLG-240H-C700A with no problems and @tinyplantas probably confused Jerry just look at the post I had to correct him on.

According to the datasheet 9 cobs will drop the current til voltage is under 32. I don't know what correspondence there was but I don't expect Jerry to build lights, so it's not a big deal but he was essentially suggesting 3 cobs per driver, which is incorrect. Pointing that out to him would be helpful.

@REALSTYLES @Rahz I feel like you guys just misread my sentence here. It was a typo for me to ask about amperage when the C700 is 700ma. I was just asking about running 4 x 36v vs 8 x 72v from the C700.

I was saying that I understand that driver can do 8 x 36v or 4 x 72v, just that I was confused about what the benefit of running more cobs at a lower current was, now I understand.

Can anyone comment about reflectors vs glass lenses?

Using glass now but it's a pain to clean them. I haven't yet but when I do I'm gonna have to take off the lens to clean the front and back and with reflectors just wipe and done, they both direct the light where you need it to go
