I took my first prescription capsule of 50000 unit vitamin D yesterday. One a week for 8 weeks and then I get my blood tested again to see where my level is at . It’s a pretty emerald green gel capsule. She also has me taking 1000 mcg of B12. Looking forward to feeling better soon.
Bolus doses to rapidly bring your serum vitamin D levels up because you work in a highly infectious environment. You might find an improvement in mood too, and if you take it too late at night it can cause sleep problems in some, mornings are best with a fatty meal to aid absorption.

I'm glad you discovered this potential risk factor and got it covered Amber, it takes time for the cells in your body to be regularly replaced and the new changes in physiology are incorporated into your body as cells divide in nutrient rich environments and old ones die. Vitamin D is incorporated into these cell membranes in the nose for instance and bolsters the cells against infection in our first line of defense. There is a lot of buzz and controversy about this in the medical and scientific community and proper studies are being done to gather better quality evidence, but it might have a big potential upside and no downside to speak of, worth a shot.

Yes I really hope it helps. I switched Dr.s and very happy I did . Although I have been telling the same symptoms to all my Different Drs over the years not one suggested a Vit D deficiency. She listened carefully to my symptoms and I asked if I ever had my vitamin D level checked which I never have. So maybe the new buzz is going to help a lot of people like myself. I will keep you posted on what changes if any I experience.

Health Canada will be looking at any vaccine the Trump administration touts or puts out, the CDC like everything else under Trump's thumb can't be trusted on a lot of things any more. The scientists are OK. but they can't speak and have their work censored or altered, they are trying to doctor the stats on mortality rates in RED states and the CDC is encouraging it.

I don't hold out hope for a vaccine before 18 months minimum, safety standards have to be extraordinarily high for something you are gonna inject into the population enmass. Treatments are the only game in town until then and I figure they are gonna get real good at it over the summer and into the fall.

People don't realize how many bad doctors are practicing medicine until they get sick. I found out by experience about that, smart caring doctors are hard to find, I have one now after dealing with a bunch of either uncaring or not too bright ones.

A sister-in-law of mine was tested and found to have practically zero vitamin D. She was prescribed similar.

I always do lots of homework on anything I put into my body along with the company selling it.
I'm pretty skeptical of anything people say you "should take".

Most people who take supplements are comparatively well off and could get all the nutrients they need through their diet. I simply reject the idea that pills can replace a healthy diet. Maybe that makes me close minded. I don't take anything. I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, get exercise and spend time outside.

Some people can't tolerate sunshine, some can't tolerate certain foods. It makes sense for them to take supplements. It's this idea that pills can replace healthy living for otherwise healthy people that bothers me.

Bad science and political desperation were Donald real motives here, grasping for straws and quick solutions. Maybe someone with a financial interest was whispering in his ear. Maybe he just picked up on the buzz around him as it was being discussed by people who don't know shit either and it was like the Clorox lecture he listened to. Profit might have played some part in motivation, but I think it was desperation as his private polls told him he was getting crushed by Covid.

When the consensus seemed to be shifting away from HCQ and it's efficacy, Donald dropped it. The study I posted on it earlier in this thread indicates some benefit and a well done observational study (proves nothing), might be the reason for its sudden revival in Trump world and in the news. Not many media outlets mention the new study, I can see why! Donald like the rest of us will have to wait for the proper studies to be competed!

Since you asked, a review of some research, papers and source links in the youtube description. A topic of interest to a few folks, yourself included I should think. It's 11 minutes long, see what Dr Seuss has to say today.

N-acetylcysteine: A rapid review of the evidence for effectiveness in treating COVID-19
VERDICT
  • N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has been proposed for use in the therapy and/or prevention of several respiratory diseases and of diseases involving an oxidative stress including COVID-19.
  • A search on 3rd April 2020 did not reveal any COVID-specific evidence for NAC, so we have fallen back on evidence in other acute respiratory disorders.
  • Clinical trial evidence for the use of NAC as an antioxidant in influenza and other acute viral respiratory tract infections is very limited and therefore difficult to draw any concrete conclusions without further trial evidence.
An old drug repurposed?

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) was introduced in the 1960s as a mucolytic drug for chronic respiratory diseases. It has a well-established safety profile and is still commonly used orally at doses of 600mg/day as a mucolytic. In hospital settings, it is also used as an antidote for paracetamol overdose (IV formulation at doses of up to 150mg/kg) and in nebulized format in patients with acute bronchopulmonary disease (pneumonia, bronchitis, tracheobronchitis). Acetylcysteine makes bronchial mucous less viscous. In vitro, cysteine derivatives act by breaking disulphide bridges between macromolecules, which leads to a reduction in mucus viscosity.(1)

However, at higher doses (≥1200mg), acetylcysteine also acts as an antioxidant through complex mechanisms which can combat conditions of oxidative stress. Acetylcysteine is a derivative of the natural amino acid cysteine, which serves as a substrate for the synthesis of glutathione (GSH) in the body which an antioxidant effect. This reduces the formation of proinflammatory cytokines, such as IL-9 and TNF-α and also has vasodilator properties by increasing cyclic GMP levels and by contributing to the regeneration of endothelial-derived relaxing factor. It is this potential antioxidant mechanism that has sparked interest with the current COVID-19 pandemic and whether this might be useful in community settings.

We therefore aimed to conduct a rapid review of NAC with specific emphasis on its potential for early administration in the community for patients at greater risk of severe COVID-19.
