First BHO attempts. WTF did I make?

Right, and he is talking about minute quantities of impurities. Breathing city air is worse for you than what I make. What about this? Now doesn't this look better? :-)

Minute quantities of impurities. Yours is far from minute. Even 1% of those solvents can be detrimental to your body.

That pic is gg4 rosin that doc made. Not bho. I know that pic. Like I said make rosin. It's cleaner, easier, safer and better

Here's some more rosin

Well thanks a lot for explaining that my stuff was crap and the only way bho can be made is with a $2100.00 vac oven.
And a $2000.00 closed loop system , gas traps and $650 distiller and well ventilated facility plus 200 proof alcohol of you go that route.

Im gonna have to say that the market doesn't give a fuck at all about any of that shit you''re saying.

Lmao. Have you ever heard of regulations. Of course they care. The consumer cares too.. Why do you think so many extract companies and facilities get shut down or have to make recalls. They half ass it.

The people that make it properly use the right equipment.

People want clean meds. Why else would ice wax and rosin go for double the price of the best bho. People want clean organic meds

I'm going to say that half the market doesn't know what shit BHO does to their lungs (and brain cells) Probably half the buzz on that shit is brain cells dying, sorta like huffing.

Hyroot is right and it's all very true, there is some nasty half assed made BHO out there. Rosin is the way to go if you're making it for your personal use. I make it myself and many others on this forum do as well. It's the safest and most pure stuff out there. Most legal states are out lawing BHO because how dangerous it is to make and how bad it can be for you if it's not properly made. Rosin FTW!

True true, I won't smoke BHO either unless I've seen the test results I've had some nasty stuff with butane taste in it still, I haven't touch the stuff since and that was last summer. Rosin is either made from squishing flower, ice hash, kief or dry sift and I've even seen guys squish trim too with heat from either a hair straightener or a rosin press. The key is to have a lot of pressure and not a lot of heat. Google it there's ton of info on it

I'm in the rosin camp all the way. I tried my hand at all that BHO stuff and came out with some nasty stuff and a worse headache the next day. I'm glad I didn't buy the shitty little vac chamber I was looking at. Rosin press is cheap easy and delicious. I'm making a press for around a hundred bucks (probably more...it's always more) but the guide is on Reddit and super easy. Online metals dot com is who I've been using for custom metal cuts. You don't have to do all that; you can use a hair straightener and parchment and your fists if you want. I use a big old table vice I have but I'm sick of buying twenty dollar hair straighteners every two weeks

I'm very disappointed that the only responses I got was general bho bashing and no help or suggestions at all except to throw my crap away and buy $4000 worth of equipment or go buy more nugs and make rosin tec. Today I bought a bottle of 195 proof everclear and some orange juice and I'm having a glass right now. So :hump: all of youse. :-)

It is what it is. With bho to make it properly and clean it costs a lot of money. About $10,000 to get started plus the cost of a lab environment facility . Even after you have all the equipment you still have quite a bit of overhead costs each run too. It's not even a viable extract monetarily anymore. The best bho goes for $30 - $40 a gram in dispensaries. Rosin and ice wax and dry sift go for $100 a gram in dispensaries. Wholesale to the dispensaries is 50% of what they charge.

If you did it right and it looked good everyone would say so. Compare yours to everyone else's on here that mad it right. Using proper equipment.

In the world if bho. There's only a very small handful of people.who actually make it right. In california, washington, arizona and now in some counties in Colorado it's a felony to produce bho no matter what. It's been illegal in all the other states. I think it's still legal in parts of Oregon though if licensed

Everyone likes rosin because anyone can make it. It's the cleanest extract there is next to dry sift. Rosin has a much higher terpene profile than bho and can even reach a higher thc % too.

The simple fact of it is if you can't afford to make bho properly then dont make it.

You need a closed loop system, gas traps, vacuum oven, distiller, dry ice chamber and sometimes 200 proof alcohol for winterizing. A very well ventilated facility.

FYI open blasting is one of the stupidest things anyone can do, even if outside.

Even to make ice wax costs about
$200- $400 for bubble bags,
$100-$300 for a washer,
$15 pump sprayer
$15 for a sieve
$60 for a few microplane

Then for the drying process

$10 for parchment
$30 for baking sheets
$50 for a rack
$600 for a wine cooler fridge or a dedicated room with ac and a dehumidifier which will be double of the cost of a decent wine cooler fridge.

A lot of people are using scientific freeze dryers now since a lot of ice wax failed microbial tests at the emerald cup. Those cost about $8,000

To make dry sift screens cost $120 you have to slow dry your material at cold temps for a month then cure at cold temps for 3- 6 months to make good sift. That's just alot of patience.

The new big thing now is terpene extraction. (Refractive distillation ) To do that properly costs about $100,000 to get started.

Here in Colorado Springs it is outlawed, only licensed companies can do it , and its extremely hard and expensive to get the licenses. They made it that way because there was houses catching fire from butane blow outs in large numbers. BHO is not safe to produce even the professionals have close calls and accidents that can and do claim their lives. Rosin and bubble hash are much safer you might want to try those first.

Licensing in WA goes for about $30,000 - $100,000 and that's what will be in effect here in Cali in 2018. Hopefully cchi 2016 gets on the ballot and voids that illegal ab266 bill that violates prop 215.

I don't know what it costs in Oregon though. Now they removed the resident requirements so if shit goes south here in November I'm moving to Oregon.

Yeah I've realized you can spend as much or as little as you want when it comes to making bubble. I'm going to get an inexpensive set of bags and do a dry ice shake and sift type deal in a bit when I have more material to work with.

I have to agree with everyone about the BHO. I took a stab at it, came out worse than yours, winterized it with 151 Everclear and it came out a tad better. Still gave me a headache and I almost started to sink more money into equipment to start making it.

I haven't spent much at all and I'm very close to have an awesome little rosin press and stop replacing hair straighteners.

I think you should try to winterizing what you have with the 200 proof alcohol (lots of how tos) and cut your losses there.

Just my two cents. Do what you do, just be safe.

you dont need all that stuff just a 5gal bucket, a mixer or drill with paint mixer and these. http://www.virtualsunhydroponics.com/virtual-sun-5-gallon-8-bag-herbal-ice-extracts-bubble-kit. i spent over $200 on the original bubble bags and they lastes about 10 years. but these are what im using now....
Never ever use a paint mixer or drill. That will beat up the material too much. The key to quality bubble is to be gentle as can be and be in a 60 degree or less environment . So the heads don't oxidize.
Never ever use cheap bags. For one the material will flake off into the bubble. 2 the microns are never accurate. You get what you pay for. The original bubble bags have a life time warranty. The other bubblebags have a 5 year warranty. You can get an 8 bag lite set for $150 or essential extract (Nikka t) bags for $160. But they're always out of stock and sell out within 2 days of being in stock.

Also use all 8 bags. You do not just want use 4. Using all 8 makes a huge difference. Plus a work bag in the washer

this is a fun subject .....and thanks for this ware down the last bit of my mind for the day .........please if anything i am saying is wrong please correct me (learning is fun)

rosin method ........low heat and pressure to press out the resin on a screen....food grade vegan ok new 100% no solvent method
RSO method ........ good method if u are in a state where can get 195% everclear ideal as it is food grade oil
Co2 method...........sub or super critical both are effective tho costly set up high grade oils ...food grade too
BHO method........depending on the rig used and gases great stuff ....not food grade(unless use N-butane)
ISO method ..........alot like RSO but not food grade

now most ppl at home are using the tube method with a silk screen over it .....personally i like a smaller micron screen gives me more choices with what i want to do with it
1 grind the material
2 pack the tube
3 place the screen over the tube
4 put the tube in a plastic bag and place in freezer for several hours (the bag is so frig does not stink like weed for weeks)
5 get a no stick silicon tray to spray in (u need to find a pot that tray can sit in u want it to be large enough so the tray can touch hot water)
6 fill your pot with water to lvl and put on stove heat until just before boil
7 put the try on top of pot and move it all outside to work
8 add in 1 shot glass (25 mls) of 99%iso to the tray
9 get your butane ready .....as what to use u want N-butane (for the longest time u had to order from england they now have a usa supplier it is refined enough to be used as food grade)
https://www.puretanebutane.com/
10 take the tube out of the freeze
11 blow 2 cans of 300ml n-butane tho the tube (1 oz 28.5 grams of bud or trim) into the tray with the iso floating on top of water about 190F
12 cover the tray with a screen fine mesh and clean (keep bugs and other things out but lets gas out )
13 walk away for 30 mins
14 collect the tray and put it on a electric skillet set to warm to purge it out more
15 wait 20/30 mins
16 stir it around and leave it for 20 more mins
17 collect it

it should be heat stabilized with the iso in the tray ........when it cools it will harden will take temps 85 90 to make it flow again
the freezing of the tube is critical as it helps keep chlorophyll out of the butane .......hence the dewaxixng column on rigs .....as u can see the cost of good gas is so much it is best to buy a close loop system passive or active

Now that appears to be very good information, thanks... similar to what I did except I didn't use iso and I put it under vacuum. Now I have redissolved the wax in everclear and I have it in the freezer right now.

Let it sit in the freezer for a couple days and then filter through an Unbleached coffee filter. You purge the alcohol off however you want. Heat or it will evaporate eventually. I'm not sure if you can use your vacuum for the alcohol. How much did you say you spent on your vac? I was looking at one and it was going to be less than 200 for pump and chamber

Everytime you ask for BHO advice your gunna get the spend a lot of money speech or advice from a newb that is trying to act like an expert on their new hobby. People like to brag about what they have and what you don't, although it is a way to make healthier bho. It's obvious that you can't afford fancy equipment and your question had nothing to do with your equipment being up to dispensary standards. Do the best you can, if you don't have access to a dispensary then it's better to make it yourself. Some people have some pretty nasty methods. Even here in MA where we have medical the dispensaries can't make clean enough oil to sell which is sad but they still sold it once.
As for better results here's a few things,
Don't grind, pull it apart and avoid pinching nugs. Be as gentle as possible
Dry everything out as much as you can, I use damprid inside a little dish in a container filled with weed. Don't let damprid liquid touch the weed tho
Then freeze everything for like a day

You mentioned some of that weed is fresh? Like fresh off the plant? That would probably be the reason you got a crumble
Like a said bho is a hobby, build up your collection of fancy equipment, always want more but don't give up until you know for a fact you suck
Smoke the oil yourself only, DO NOT sell it until you are up to hyroots standards. If you want to sell, listen to hyroot. Look up the risks you are taking with your method, if you are cool with them then who cares.
I have a guide on here for people with not fancy equipment

Rosin is a good idea too but I get better results with bho

Thanks @MedicalMike420 for the good information. Yes, moisture could have been the reason and it didn't help when I got impatient and turned the heat up to 140deg. I watched it wax in from the outside to the center. I thought it was cool looking but then I found out wax doesn't store well. I strictly experiment and self medicate. I don't sell or even give away anything... not even a party. What I was hoping to do is prepare some shatter or something suitable that I could freeze and store for an extended period.
