Grow Daddy Fridge First Grow

hey every one! I wanted to share with the community what I have been working on lately. I have converted a old fridge into a grow cabinet and just got it operational last night. I’m sure there will be some minor tweaks along the way but here are some details

Inside cabinet diementions 28”x28”x54”

4” 100cfm duct booster fan as intake, currently runs all the time

4” 190cfm in-line fan with variable speed currently on all the time at the lowest speed

IGRESS weather station with additional sensor. This way I can see the temperature of the room as well as inside the fridge

The light I am using is a DIY Led Strip I built with instruction from www.ledgardener.com
I went with 6 Bridgelux Gen 2 560 strips powered by a HLG 120H-c105b mounted on 1-1/4” aluminum angle.

This is my first time growing with LED so not really sure what to expect. Any tips would be much appreciated.

The first batch of girls to go in are 6 white widows (might get a little crowded) I got some feminized seeds from bcseedking.com. I was vegging them under my T5 set up for 5 weeks and just switched them to 12/12 last night when I transferred them to the fridge.

Check it out! Let me know what you think!
Happy growing!

Dude I really like that fridge set up. Everything looks so neat and clean. Good job on the build. How many watts are those strips putting out?
Thanks man! I plan on getting a few more pictures to show it off a bit :bigjoint: it’s putting out about 124watts. There is 672 diodes running at 1050ma. I’m a little unsure about the light so I hope it works good. There is a lot of guys using them but to me it doesn’t seem that bright so I dunno:confused:. I got it together for under $230 so wasn’t to bad imo

Day 4 of flower

Well turns out I’ve been running my light at 30% power for the last 3 days. Got my dimmer installed tonight and man does this thing go bright!! Definitely makes me feel better since I was a little spectical at how bright it was.

There is definitely some signs of stress since they have pretty much been sitting in the dark for the past 4 days. Hopefully they can make a quick turnaround. Trimmed a few fan leaves on day 2

Day 6

Plants not looking that great, lots of yellowing and light green on the new growth. Very skinny leaves on the top. Might be heat exhaustion so I moved the light up a bit more. Currently sitting at 16” away from tops, still might be close but I’ll try it out and see how they look.

Almost thinking to put them back on 18-6 till they recover but not sure what that will do to the plants

i found my plants look so much better on 18/6

When the lights would come back on they looked rejuvenated every morning.

I ran the space cookies for 8 or 9 days on 24/7, i wasnt a fan of how they looked so i switched to 18/6 and havent looked back lol

Yeah not really sure what to do now since my light was running at 30% the first 4 days. I probably should of had them get adjusted to the new light before switching to 12/12 but was excited to get them into bloom.

Gonna do some more research since moving them into the fridge is another variable, could just be poor habit

Ya I would start it at like 18 inches from the plants and as they start to bounce back lower to roughly 10 inches off the top. I run my QBs at like 10 inches in flower and 18 in veg. But I've had them at like 8 inches from the tallest top and never had light bleaching. Now that you cranked it they are gonna love it.

wow i must have been totally looped when i read this earlier lol.

forgot you were already in flower. I dont think i would revert back to 18/6 now. altho if you were considering that route, i would ask some more experienced growers before doing so lol

So few things have happened. I switched the lights back to 18/6. There were no signs of preflower so decided it would be best to veg them up a bit and get them strong and healthy aposed to having a weak plant trying to flower and doing it poorly.

I swaped 3 plants out of the fridge and put them back under my T5 set up. 1 of the three is not looking good at all and I’ll be surprised if it lives, the other 2 were much taller and still recovering. Now I got 6 plants in the fridge that are equal heights

As you can see the two are much taller.

I added a cfl fixture I had laying around to try and improve a few things. The reason for this is to raise the over all tempature and increase the IR, I was going to use a regular incandescent bulb but thought I might as well use the CFL and gain a little more use full spectrum

This seems to be working and has brought the temperature up with out having to heat the whole room with a space heater. The fridge is runnnig around 25 c with the lights on. After someone mentioning VPD in another forum I decided to check it out. After reviewing some information via google I quickly came to realize my humidity is two low. So I added a wire shelf and set it 3” above the bottom of the cabinet and added to trays filled with water underneath914A5A6E-89DF-4048-BC81-7F526521A8FD.jpeg
So this is how it’s currently running and I was able to get the humidity up 15% to be around 60%

I have a ways to go as far as ideal habit. One of the led sites recommends to be running around 85f and a humidity of 80% I currently sitting with in range so will just try to keep it in the orange for now until I can raise the tempature higher946A936E-A5D5-4C2B-B00D-383FC34AF293.jpegPink numbers are the fridgeCDED062A-EAD0-4921-A35C-4ADE2A71B0B3.jpegAF9DEE70-E46A-40F2-97BB-EBE1E96A2D3C.jpeg

Well after a bit of a rough go with a few issues I have 4 plants in week 7 of flower.

Definitely learnt a lot with my led build and got the fridge dialed in a little better so happy about that.

It was a good run nonetheless to get back into growing

Cloning in Rockwool

Decided to try cuttings going into cubes of Rockwool.

These two plants were used for mothers
CB483311-6AF5-43B8-B058-03A7DD698D6D.jpeg

Started by soaking the cubes in Noah’s quality R.O water ( local friend of mine) with a drop of Remos grow, natures candy and the Vel kelp at a 8 ml-gallon ratio. 3DA877CA-626E-4ED3-9530-F23B8008F986.jpeg

Used the pH strips to see how close the mix was to 5.5 with out having to adjust.

Might have been a bit off but will no for next time
Poured 2 liters of the mix into 2 trays and let the cubes soak for 30 min

Took a variety of sized cuttings put them into water and labeled them by where they came off the plant to kinda see which ones worked out better.

Cut on a 45 angle 1/4”below a nofe and dipped in the gel. On the smaller ones I used a tooth pick to make a smaller hole in the rock wool for a tight fit.

Got 30 between the two domes with a 48” t5 sitting on top. One heat mat between the 2.
