what changes have YOU made and seen the biggest improvement in quality?

The last 2 weeks I switch out 2-600hps for 2- 430 red argrosun ballasts and bulbs... It's probably because I've twice as many ballasts as I need, and if I switch them out I can justify keeping them.....
My dog says it's because I'm so fucking cheap..

Come on fellas!!! Step away from arguing now.

The biggest change that I made was creating a near perfect environment and having almost complete control over every aspect of temp, RH, air exchange and light.

Keeping day and night temp differences very minimal less than 4C will help to reduce stretching during transition.

With same genetics. (clones from same mother)
went from soil to hempy buckets and boy the growth is amazing but that's kinda obvious, however its much easier than dwc and you don't have to worry about root rot or any of that nonsense. I have seen growth on dwc and hempy and it looks pretty much the same.

Also, one should "supercrop" their branches to allow the lower branches to get more light without having to remove them thus increasing my yield without having to wait for the plant to recover like the guys that remove lower branches.

which brings me to the third change. since most people usually have some lower growth on their plant after harvest that are pretty much "useless"... reveg that plant and you will increase your yield by lowering the time spent on vegging another clone or from seed as the revegged plant typically has more foilage on it than a clone.

People seem to think defoilating is the way to go however, defoliating knowing you are going to reveg seems pretty silly considering that those goes fan leaves will be needed next harvest...

I don't flush, plants don't seem to mind and they never throw any defs at me so i must be doing something ok.

oh yeah, I use miracle grow 24-8-16 with epsom salts and superthrive and 60ppm tap water. oh.. and potassium silicate and humic acid. I switched over from botanicare pbp grow and i have seen an improvement in just veg because botanicare threw defs in veg.

added s.t,potassium silicate to botanicare.

added epsom salts, s.t, passium silicate, and humic acid to miracle grow.

both tap water.

thats all i have to add at the moment...

Electrolytes and fairy dust.

It's what plants crave.
Ub,

ive seen you say multiple times, electrolytes, it's what plants crave.

When I think electrolytes, I think of Gatorade advertisements. I think of salts. Organic growing is totally against any salt. What's am I missing?

It is a reference to a Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead, Office Space, King of the Hill) film called Idiocracy. Planet Earth is overrun by imbeciles by the year 2500. Evolution states Survival of the Fittest, not Smartest.

The population is double digit IQ stereotypical Rube America. Corporations run everything and everybody is assigned a job. An awful lot like Brave New World, if everyone were Delta or Epsilon and fed a steady diet of malt liquor, Taco Bell and Jackass marathons.

In that future, humanity is at risk of dying because corporations have snookered people into watering their food crops with a preservative and salt laden Gatorade analog called Brawndo-The Thirst Mutilator.

Bloom boosters and all the other 100 dollar a liter hoopla are called "electrolytes-what plants crave!" because that is the Brawndo tag line in the movie. I'm new here but UB seems to be a back to basics guy who spurns the new stuff as damaging gimmicks.

You are correct. As stated a hundred times, I've never seen and read so much crap about gimmicks and rocket fuels in my life. Wanna grow good pot? Unlearn everything you're been "taught" here and learn how to grow a tomato. https://www.rollitup.org/nutrients/570037-so-you-noobs-hooked-cannabis.html

I hate you for this quote. It's a lesson I am currently re-learning. I've been organic gardening fruits and veggies for over a decade. And good gardening to boot. As of 8 years ago I have had produce placing in the top 3 at the very least and multiple grand champion ribbons every year at the state fair. Chiefly tomatoes and peppers. Imagine my chagrin when I can't get my damned first MJ grow to produce, burn the shit out of them with high nute soil and over water them to the point of pH locking them. My wife finally pulled my head out of my ass for me and reminded me I went through this same crap early on in gardening. I fucked with everything too much and mothered it to death. I was doing the same damned thing with my first grow.... this time backed up with "well I can grow such and such grand champion blah blah" to keep me thinking I knew what the hell I was doing.

I can't say a damned thing about what increases marijuana yields because I haven't yielded anything from it yet. But with Ben's tomato quip in mind. In growing tomatoes, really really good tomatoes..... most of the time less is really more. In gardening there can easily be too much of a number of good things.

Want better yields get a bigger damned light ! I've skimmed through UB's thread's and seems to be about how I grow although if needed i will supplement.Every strain is different so what works for one won't another biggest help so far to me is EXPERIENCE!

- +1 for defoliating. Took me quite a few grows and losing out on some good yields to really see the difference what taking the fan leaves off can do. Really lets the lower buds thicken up and become nice useable nugs. I don't post much but I tried to chime in on a conversation about removing fan leaves on this site and the amount of people that roasted me for saying it made my crops better was pretty funny. I'm not re posting articles or some bs I found on the internet I'm saying I've done it and got better yields, somehow that's not good enough.

- KISS - keep it simple stupid and get a ppm meter. I have to constantly remind myself that more isn't better. Its so easy to think that more nutes = more bud. I still catch myself doing this, and laugh when I do. I've gone from having close to 10 different nutrients being added down to 3 or 4 and getting better results and saving $.

what increased my quality is being patient and keeping all the stress away till harvest. learning how to identify a problem very early on or before one starts if possible and creating a prognosis efficiently thats what separates a grower from a wannabe .Use all the nutrients you want if you dont know a little about the plant and grow it several times and dial in on what that strain likes and doesnt then your missing out on quality and yield if that matters to you.
