What went wrong on YOUR first grow?

Hi everyone. This thread is meant to be informative and helpful to all. Please post the BIGGEST mistake you made in your very first grow and what you did different your second grow to correct the mistake.

Looking forward to get some replies and I bet some of these will be funny!

my first grow i paid absolutely no attention to the ph and ended up with crispy leaves even though i fed sparingly. now i check the runoff with every watering and my leaves stay alive for flowering lol. also i think i prematurely killed plants thinking they were male but i'll never know on that one.

my first grow was outside and it was a horrible location! way too wet, hot, and humid so the plant was stunted with fluffy buds. i also harvested too early.

my second grow was indoors and i fucked up the ph of my soil and got crispy leaves.

after that i went soilless and havent had any problems since! Canna coco is amazing haha.

Spider Mites. >8-O

Spider mites, didn't have a clue, and next thing I know I got web nests everywhere.

Budworms. Had no idea about them until it was too late. Never clicked on the "yeah its budworm season" thread until after I had them. Since I mostly grow autos on my balcony, I'm thinking about getting some kind of lightweight netting (or whatever else I find to do the job) to toss over them at night to prevent the moths from laying their eggs. Should be a fairly cheap preventative. In the meantime I've been spraying with BT every 10 days. I might pick up the pace on that.

What exactly is BT?

everything else kinda worked itself out without too much intervention so far.

What did I learn... wait until your plant tells you it needs nutes and then follow the directions for your schedule according to the directions on your nute bottle and you don't get that

my first grow i had a little bit of nute burn but nothin to major...all the plants made it to harvest and it was some good smoke. but 2 things i changed was getting bigger pots to grow in and adding more light for the kids...just about doubled my yields.

I had no idea that a plant could hermie so it wasn't something I was looking for. One day I bumped a plant and some "dusty" stuff fell off of it. I'm pretty sure he's the baby daddy of all of the seeds I got from that harvest.

My first grow I planted six girls. Three different kinds , two of each . Well , the girls used up the nutes at different levels and stretched differently. Playing with the lights trying to keep light as low as possible was a pain as two plants stretched fast and two stayed really bushy. Next grow ( to start on 4th of July ) I will plant all six girls the same breed.

My shit died my first 3 or so trys...I kept using "expert gardener" I think that was the problem..when I used jiffys I was off and rolling

I made all the mistakes my first go round; too much water, too low pH, too much heat, cheap soil, too small of pots, too much fertilizer, light hood too high, bugs, and on and on...

The bright side; I learned allot through my errors.

I was about to harvest my very first grow of WW and out of no where I was abducted by aliens. I found myself in a strange white room surrounded by short creatures with large black round eyes. They were pinching my nipples and laughing out loud. The females, so they seemed to be (at least I hope they were) were fondling my testicles and laughing at the size of my penis. I was quickly aroused (as usual) and with my amazingly cat quick reflexes grabbed one of the females by the head.

She knew exactly what I wanted and gobbled my throbbing erection to the hilt. The male aliens were stunned by my quick thinking and tried to attack me all at once. I flung the female away and grabbed the small alien creatures by their necks and one by one throttled them to death.

The remaining females fell to the knees and took me in as their leader. They took their ship back to Earth and we gathered up my harvest of WW. Once everything was dried and cured we took what was left and shot off into outer space in search of the ganja lord Cannibusibal.

the one plant i grew on my first grow was a male. Lesson: when growing from seed germinate more than one seed.

I let them so called cannabis experts and ganja gurus make this too complicated. Then I found Bill Drake's simple little "farm manual", The Cultivators Handbook of Marijuana, and everything just made sense after that.

I recommend anybody having problems do themselves a favor and find a copy of his book. He lays out a very solid foundation with only the facts, and none of the hype and bullshit. Once you got a grip on that though, the possibilities are endless.

Never had a problem on any of my grows. We if a little nitrogen def is classed as a problem, yea.
