Day 9 since flip to 12/12:

Gorilla CBD
IMG_6400.JPG

She seems to be doing her thing. Looks just like I would expect for this stage of my grow.

Eden
IMG_6401.JPG

Again...
The structure of these two are completely different.
As mentioned, the Eden plant does NOT want to be trained into the SCROG.
Plus that, the plant does not fill in with additional bud sites on the lower exposed branches.
Very odd, I've not seen anything like it, (In my vast, 4 plant, grow history).
I would like to see it grown more conventionally and I am attempting to close and give to a friend who does hemp research.
Current cloning not going well...we'll see.

Both just starting to show flower:
IMG_6403.JPG IMG_6404.JPG

They have drank a whole reservoir of nutes this week, (12 Gal, 45 L) plus what I had to add to keep topped up.
I will do a reservoir change today, and start transitioning to flower nutes, less N, more PK.

Stay Safe out there folks,
WillieP

Day 17 since flip to 12/12

Things still moving along...
Basically just more of the same, Eden plant looks yellow, like a deficiency type yellow, but the Gorilla plant looks great and they are fed from the same reservoir. Is what it is...

I am attempting to clone the Eden plant for a friend that does Hemp research. This is my first attempt at cloning and it has not went all that well.
First attempt was just cuttings placed in a homemade 'cloning' bucket in neoprene collars. Total fail.
Next attempt has been to place the cuttings in Rapid Rooters under a humidity dome, and they have finally shown roots. Just today I have moved them to the cloning bucket. Hopefully they will take, as the mother plant is in flower. The 'cloning' bucket and the rapid rooters are the method I have used to start my seed and it has worked well. I have high hopes that now that the clones have roots that they will show signs of improvement, they are pretty damn sad at the moment.
IMG_6484.JPG IMG_6486.JPG IMG_6485.JPG IMG_6487.JPG IMG_6488.JPG

I also started my next two seeds today, a Durbin Poison and Grape Ape. Hoping to have a daytime and a nighttime strain. Paper towel on a plate covered by a bowl, placed on top of my cable TV box for warmth. When they show signs of sprouting I will move them to the 'cloning' bucket in rapid rooters placed in 2 inch net pots.

That's all for now,

Hey all,
Another week has gone by, and the Eden plant is hurting.
IMG_6514.JPG IMG_6509.JPG

As I mentioned earlier, both plants are fed from the same reservoir, and the gorilla plant looks great.

IMG_6513.JPG

It's not hard to see the difference...

IMG_6542.JPG

I have switched over to bloom nutrients, and that seems to be making things worse.
Seems to be Nitrogen related, although I could easily be wrong.
This is the plant that I have cloned for my research friend, hopefully he will have better luck with it, and can provide me with some answers to what's up with it.
I am certainly open to input as to how to correct my issue. If you know a fix for this, shout it out, I'm all ears.

On a happier note, all the clones are showing great root growth and even starting to see improvement topside as well.
I also just transferred next crop's sprouted seeds to Rapid Rooters today, so that has went well also.

All words of wisdom welcome...

26 days since flip to 12/12.

I posted the following in the nutrients thread, but didn't get much feedback.
I thought I would try again here:

Hello all,
I was wondering if someone would be willing to give me a breakdown of the current dry nutrient solution that I am currently using in my Ebb and Flow Hydro system.
Or teach me how...I attempted to use an online spreadsheet to give me a breakdown, but I got lost.
I am feeding two plants, (separate strains) from the same reservoir. They are currently on day 24 since flip to 12/12. One of the plants is doing well, and the other is failing badly.

The Veg nutrients that I used were.

2 parts Masterblend (4-18-38 )
1 part Epsom Salt
2 parts Calcium Nitrate (15.5-0-0)

These were fed at a PPM of 250-600 depending on the level of development, and how the plants were feeding.

When I moved to Bloom I added:
1 part MKP (0-52-34)
1 part Potassium Sulfate (0-0-53)

These are fed at 700-850 PPM

I just did a reservoir change tonight.

I used:
4 grams Masterblend
2 grams Epsom Salts
4 grams Calcium Nitrate
2 grams MKP
2 grams Potassium Sulfate
These were mixed in 6 gallons of RO water with 4 ml of Cal/Mag per gallon (total 24 ml)
This makes for a solution of 732 PPM.

It's not hard to tell that the one plant is having issues...

IMG_6542.JPG IMG_6514.JPG

All other growing conditions are the same and second plant is doing fine.
I believe this is a nutrient issue. That is why I asked for a breakdown of what I'm feeding them.

Any help would be most welcome. This is only my second grow.

As I thing that this is nutrient related, I added the following to the reservoir tonight.

4 grams Masterblend
2 grams Epsom Salt
6 grams CaNi
20 ml CalMag
6 gallons of RO
Adjusted overall reservoir to:
5.5 PH, 725 PPM

This should increase the N level and hopefully I will see improvement.

On a happier note, the clones are finally acting like they are going to make it after all.

IMG_6556.JPG IMG_6557.JPG IMG_6558.JPG

I'll be on vacation next week, but when I get back I will transfer these to my research friend and he will stick them in dirt.

All advise welcome,
WillieP

I don’t Think that both plants are needing the same levels. Can you separate them now and feed them separate? Otherwise you need to select the fittess . I understand how upsetting and difficult this decision might be but your in a tough spot Willie. It’s like being in ICU with two patients needing a ventilator and you have to decide who is going to live and die . I’m sorry especially during these uncertain times. Good luck!

Hi Doc,
Thank you for your input, and nice to hear from you.
I totally agree that these two strains have way different nutrient needs. Very unfortunate, and I wish I would have known that going in... Live and Learn. I think the lesson here maybe that I need to add another pump and reservoir so each plant can have it's own. I don't think that I will be able to make that happen for this grow, but I believe it would be wise to do so for the next one. They seemed to veg fine with the same nutrients, so I think I can get away with one reservoir for veg, and then have individual reservoirs for flower.
This grow, I will focus on the health of the Gorilla plant, and the Eden plant (the CBD only plant) will just get what it gets. I do have to admit that it is troublesome to watch the Eden plant 'suffer'.

Let’s try to save her Willie! We just need to be creative and innovative and We can do it Can’t we try. It’s too painful to watch .

Sorry Doc,
I didn't see your last post.

I agree that it would have been nice to be able to try and save her, but I will be giving 3 clones to my research friend so I will be able to see how it preforms for him in dirt, and I can always get flower of that strain from him. If it would have been the other of the strain that looks that horrible, I would of had to of found a solution.

Day 39 since flip to 12/12.
So I made it back from vacation and all my plants are still alive. Major Plus.
Sorta more of the same, one plant healthy, one plant looks terrible.
The healthy one's buds are starting to bulk up a bit, and are showing signs of promise.

Both plants

The little bitty seedling is the begins of the next round, that is a Durban Poison. Seeds are actually from South Africa, looking forward to growing that one.

That's all for now.
Stay safe out there folks!

Bad news boys and girls!
The sickly plant turned hermie...so it had to meet the ax.
The thing had obviously been under heavy stress for a long time, and looking back, it would have been a better choice to have just given it the ax some time ago. Hindsight is 20/20.
The healthy plant continues to do well, and so far I have not been able to detect that it has been pollenated, however I find that somewhat difficult to believe, as they were sharing the same 5x5 tent space.
As mentioned, I was able to get 3 clones of the Eden plant, and they will be finished off in an outside grow by my friend that does hemp research. Very interested to see how they do for him in that environment.
I choose to see this as a learning experience, and will move on from here. I will re-configure my grow system so that each plant will have it's own reservoir from now on, hopefully that will eliminate this issue in the future.

Life lesson learned,
WillieP

The buds on the healthy plant are gorgeous! they look a lot further a long than 43 days.

Thanks LG!!
They do seem pretty bulky for this stage. I just looked up the strain to check and the suggested indoor flowering range is 55-65 days.
I have not looked at them under the scope yet.
I have added a bunch of red LED light to the bloom stage, and I am wondering if that is having a positive effect.
I am pleased with how this one looks so far.

So this evening I trimmed out the plant that had 'hermied' on me.
There ended up being 177 seeds, and 3oz of bud.
The buds were under developed and were very light and airy.
This was chopped way earlier that it should have been, so there may or may not be anything worth a damn as far as the bud goes.
The seeds will go to my friend that does hemp research, and he will plant them is his test plot next year.
I will also be able to have it lab tested to see it there is any decent amount of CBD in the bud.

IMG_6823.JPG IMG_6824.JPG

I have been over the remaining plant pretty well, and as of yet have not found any seed pods on any of the buds so far.
This seems very bizarre to me as the two plants shared the same 5x5 tent. I guess time will tell.

Cheers,
WillieP

Stinks the one plant hermied on you ... I moved away from shared reservoirs for the exact same reason a few years ago ... its too hard to grow different strains, sometimes even just different phenos

But fortunate the other one doesn't appear pollinated! Not that few seeds are the end of the world ...

The other plant looks nice and healthy..

And I'm REAL interested in how that Durban does for you!

The last (and my first) grow this all worked perfectly!

This grow thing went a little astray.
I triggered my pump timer and pulled the covers on my small totes to make sure things were filling and draining well.
Not so much!!!
The Gorilla plant was getting about an inch of nutrients at the bottom and that was it.
The filling port was so full of roots that you couldn't even blow air through it.
Oops! I guess someone wasn't watch his girls roots well enough.
And yes, if you're wondering did it suck trying to tear apart a drain on a tote which has a plant in a SCROG screen, why YES, YES it did!!

I was always under the impression that the water pressure is big enough to prevent roots growing into the filling port.
But apparently not.
Or did something else cause it?

Question
How many gallons did your plants use per day when they were both at their peak?

I use a reservoir outside the tent that is pumped in for two minutes every four hours. So there is very little flow and it’s for a short period of time.
Just a ballpark guess, I would say 1 1/2 to 2 gallons per day.
Now that I know to watch the roots more closely, I haven’t had any more problems.
Hope this answers your questions.
