So as I mentioned earlier, I was gifted a clone from a strain that has been in continuous use since 1968.
No breeding, No crosses. Just the same strain for more than 50 years. That pretty cool to me.
I got her home a couple of days ago and today placed her in her permanent E&F home.
She looks a little droopy, but I'm hoping that is just transplant shock and she will perk up in a couple of days.
Fingers crossed!

So I'm a bit more optimistic that things aren't going to hell in a hand basket. (Maybe...)
The Durban Poison is starting to show flower, this is day 12 since flip.
IMG_7146.JPG IMG_7147.JPG IMG_7148.JPG

I did a bit of trimming up under her skirt, and she is starting to take shape.

I also topped the 1968 plant and trimmed away a few of her bottom leaves, as she had perked up when I checked on her today.

Hopefully things will get turned around shortly!
Cheers,

This is the instructions I was given and the product that I have on order.

"The #3 "Shock" that I use from HTH is 52% Calcium Hypochlorite and is the only bag you need and a 1lb bag will last you yrs for like $8.
Mix 5g of shock treatment with 1 gallon of water for your stock solution. Once you mix the stock solution, add 5ml of the stock solution for every 1 gallon of water in your res every 3 days."

The liquid bleach is just a stop gap to get by till my order gets here. The stuff I could find locally had other crap added to it that I didn't like the sound of. (BTW, I live right in the middle of cornfield county, around the corner from Mayberry.)

Thank you both for the assist! Really appreciate it!

I owe you a correction. Tyler uses 7 ml/gal of his shock stock. This makes your previously posted numbers look good.

What strain is the 1968 plant? How has it been able to survive for so long?

I'll be interested to see how it compares to a modern strain. I keep reading how everything is so much stronger today than it was years ago.

So they say confession is good for the soul, at least that's what I've heard...
I've been fighting with trying to gain control of this current grow.
Fungus gnats, bacterial infection, PH swings, stunted growth, yellowing of leaves, ect...
I have brought home the new 1968 clone, and in the last couple of day things have really went south.
IMG_7166.JPG
I chose to add the pool shock, made a base solution of 5 grams per gallon, and added to the reservoir at a rate of 5 ml per gallon. Hoping that this would turn things around for me.
Today she looks LOTS worse, not even going to post a picture.
So at this point I chose to flush with tap water, in case I had some sort of salt build up.
Drain the reservoir, added 5 gallons of tap and started to flood repeatedly...then I remember that I didn't PH the tap water.
I grab my trusty PH pen and measured my tap water...10.2 PH...WTF!!
Yeah, I was freaking...
I have very high TDS tap water, like 600 PPM, but my PH always runs about 7.0, so now I have no clue what is going on.
Eventually the light bulb comes on, and I calibrate the PH pen.
After calibration the tap water is measuring 7.2.
So all the PH down I have been using has been for not.
The PH pen was measuring 3.0 points high, so if I was getting a 6.8 reading in the reservoir and then adjusting to 5.6, I was really taking it down to 2.6. No wonder both my plants look so bad.

I did a reservoir change on the Durban Poison that is at day 16 of flower, and I am letting the 1968 plant in veg flush with PH'd tap water overnight as my RO tank re-fills. I will change the reservoir on it tomorrow.

Long winded way of saying that WillieP is a dumbass sometimes.
And don't forget to calibrate your PH pens kids.

Hoping to see things turn around soon,
WillieP

OK, so I said I wasn't going to post any pics of 1968 cause it is just to sad!!
But after a little more thought, I have decided to document it's amazing come back!
These are it's rock bottom pics...

Changed it's reservoir just now.
Fingers crossed.

So the '1968' strain is making a come back!!
Really happy about that, to say the least.
I have went to sterile reservoirs which will hopefully help with not getting anymore bacterial infections.
And I hope I have learned my lesson about calibrating my PH pen.

She has been topped and I am cutting away the nastiness as the new growth come in.
She's looking better everyday...thankfully.

how's your grow going?
Hey LG,
Pretty happy with the way things are going.
This is the Durban Poison. 42 days from flip.

I had a PH pen calibration issue, and that is why the fans look so bad, but the sugar leaves look good.

The 1968 strain has made a remarkable come back. I'm so happy that I didn't totally screw that one up.

I was gifted three other plants from a new grow friend. He grows outdoors and had taken clones when his plants were in flower.
They looked a little weird at first, but are coming out of it.
One of them is a strain he is calling Missouri Northern Lights, the next is that strain crossed with Atomic Bomb, and the third is a Bruce Banner.

I just wanted to try something new and different, so I have been researching Hempy buckets.
Tonight I transplanted the MNL plant from soil to Hempy.
Yes it was way to big for this, but I wanted to see if I could do it.
If it takes to it well, I will do the other two soil plants as well.
I considered taking clones and then starting those in Hempy's, but we will see how this goes.

Are you still planning on getting your grow on come the new year?

Wow they look a lot better than your last update. I was worried this grow might be a loss for you. Northern Lights was the first strain I grew. It was from RQS and I had massive variances in the phenotypes.

Are hempy buckets just hydroton and perlite?

I decided to start up right away. I ordered wedding cake seeds and they're supposed to be here tomorrow. From Toronto to Toronto... five days shipping

Hey LG,
The hempy buckets use lots of different mediums. Coco, perlite, vermiculite, hydroton, ect. And combinations of all of them.
The main idea is that there is a medium that will drain well providing oxygen to the roots, along with a 'water table' for the roots to always get nutrients.
If you google hempy (just the last name of the guy that made them famous), or 'Dutch bucket'. You will find more info than you ever wanted.

Really glad that you are getting back on the horse so to speak.
Wishing you better luck on this upcoming grow.
Cheers,
WillieP

Hey All,
So things have been a bit of a struggle this grow cycle.
The plant that I was gifted came with a mite infestation, that I was not expecting or prepared for.
I am still treating for them, it has not overran the vent, but I have not eliminated them yet either. Still fighting that fight.
The other trouble I'm having is the PH of the Hempy bucket. I can put 5.7 in and measure runoff at 6.5. Flush with PH'd RO and get runoff down to 5.6-5.8, but the next day same thing. Thus far I have been unable to get the PH in the Hempy to stabilize. This has, of course, been difficult on the plant.
I think the root of the issue is that the plant was way to large to attempt to transplant from soil to Hempy. I have decided to just up-pot the remaining two plant into fabric pots using soil. I'm sure they are root bound and their growth in suffering because of that.
On a happier note, the Durban Poison is really coming along well. It is maturing faster that what I thought it would.
This is at day 48 from flip to 12/12.

The other positive I have going is that the 1968 strain has made a full recovery and is looking wonderful.
