A friend is going to give me his 4x4 CXB3590 rack of lights. He has (2) HLG-240H-C1050B drivers that are powering 12 CXB3590 - 6 each driver.

My understanding is this is an efficient set up (for wall watts) but not really pushing the cobs...can i swap out the drivers to get more light? if so what would be a good swap?

Good friend!

It depends on your heatsinks. If they can handle more heat then yes if not then that's bad. You'll be fine with them as they are in a 4x4. If you want better heatsinks contact robincnn at northern grow lights or cobkits.com to get heatsinks you'll know for sure that can handle higher wattages.

He says 50-60 watt heat sinks...I guess I will try it as is

thinking of just adding a driver so only 4 lights per driver vs 6.
again currently it sits at:

would I gain much PAR by just getting another HLG-240-1050 and each runs 4 COBS?

no it will not change a thing.you will still be at 35w per cob using those drivers.only way to up the power is change all drivers to 1400ma or 1750ma.i would not go past 1400ma with those heatsinks which puts you at 50w per chip.like i said try it on a crop before you change stuff.you might be surprised how well the 1050ma drivers do

You could limp along with 35W per COB. Or you could dump the 1050 drivers, upgrade to 140mm heatsinks, buy three HLG-320H-C2100B drivers, and kick some serious ass. You don't need 75W per COB... wait, yes you do. Because then you could dim them down to 50W each and pull better results than you'd get running the 1050s wide open. I suspect your friend is giving them to you because they were under-performing. Am I right?

OK, just kidding. Before you drop a lot of dough on upgrades just run them as is.

you have plenty of light. light by plants view is not measured in intensity as we s it. If you want to up the watts, I would go with HLG-185H-C1400B with four cobs per driver to get to 50w which would do fine with 3-HLG-185H-C1400B w/ 4- cxb3590 per driver giving you 600w of power same cobs new drivers

Hey @SupraSPL.....welcome to the forum. you'll find a lot of knowledgeable people here to help you on your 1st day of running LEDs...

I suggest you have got the wrong LEDs selected and you want a commericial fixture that goes by the name of growblu. They are totally original in their ideas, are the most efficient and are imported direct from another country. You also need red and blue LEDs to grow anything....and white just doesn't have enough Lumens which is a measurement that plants use.

I like to give accurate information to newbyz...you are welcome. :)

PS....stay away from a guy called @PSUAGRO....he is a troll from way back... ;)
Is this an AD? This guy doesn't have a clue.
