Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

Just started my 2nd indoor flowering run.

After much debate, I've chosen to count after the first 12 hrs of dark, as day 1.

This King Tut showed on day 3.

I've also concluded that breeders dates are guidelines, but ultimately I'm in control of the grow and how I tend to it affects everything.

Thanks for all whom take the time to share your thoughts and experiences.

Don’t do much indoor anymore but I never actually kept track much....... my room was also where I smoked so the journals were hit and miss lol. But didn’t matter much, it was done when done, Typically 10 weeks give or take from flip is what I counted in unless it was a bad ass sat., then it was anyone’s guess lol.

It's a bit more precise when you wait until you start to see pistils, but to be honest, you may as well just age the plant from when you cut the light to 12 & 12. The only real reason for aging your buds, is to schedule the harvesting of it...and you can't really go by that either. You know, this bud is an indica dominant strain which flowers in 8 weeks of whatever, it doesn't mean that in 8 weeks to the hour it's ready to cut down, or a sativa strain that doesn't seem to finish...wtf is with this thing gonna be done?...go by the trichomes, and a little longer is always better than a little too soon...if you like potency, but the buzz also changes as the more trichomes get amber in colour...so it can become a personal, or relative thing.

Just curious? Why don't you grow indoors anymore? Don't you think indoor plants come out better than outdoor grown bud? I guess that depends a lot on where you live & grow though...?

I've seen it quoted a few times that indoor is best.
I live in a crappy climate so I'll just need to accept that lol.. It did surprise me I thought outdoor would be best but apparently not?

I grow outdoors because it’s free and I can lol. Yes I prefer my hydro grown bud as I like the taste (I know weird huh lol). Growing indoors I had to deal with gnats, temps (in hydro) and just way more time and money due to super expensive power rates here. Now that they’ve allowed 4 plants they’ve slowed way down on the fly overs so way less risk now as well. Yes I grow more than 4 ;).

Shiiiiiid….I’ve grown some ilgm white widow (fucking fire btw) that was labeled 9-10 weeks….well I’ve grown about 20 of them all from seed….. the longest one took damn near 17 weeks to finish ( she just kept swelling up and getting bigger, all the while every week I took a sample and put under a desk top microscope…all clear until around week 13 after that I started to see cloudy and by 16 ish weeks I had about 10% amber 80%cloudy and 10% clear)….. and the shortest one was about 11 weeks if I remember corectly

She'll tell you when she's ready...goes by the state of the trichomes and stigma...I wait at least until all trichomes are milky white with some amber ones...if you see any clear glass like trichomes, it's way too early. Once I see no more clear ones, I Final Flush the thing with 16 litres of flush mixture then let it dry out in complete darkness for the last few days, she seems to go into survival mode producing more THC...or so they say. The bud will only get as good as the strain you grew allows...

Outdoor marijuana plants are best if you live in a tropical climate or have a greenhouse set up with light deprivation abilities. If you reside in a cooler climate area, then you best buy yourself some LED lights so you can start the plants indoors before spring so they'll finish in time...it's exactly what i did, makes all the difference. To be honest, no matter how good the weather is, the plants grown indoors under controlled conditions are always nicer with more yield...my experience. I see these guys in California & Oregon growing friggin' trees...HUGE plants. Must be nice...

I was wondering how do you count the flowering days.

Do you count from 12/12 switch from 18/6

Or

Do you start counting flowering days when you first see pistils?

I always have started counting the flowering period from when I see the first pistils, however I recently have seen a few people counting flowering period from when they switch from 18/6 to 12/12.

see I figured if I switch from 18/6 to 12/12 then it takes a further 10 days for the plant to show sex and I counted them days as the flowering period, that means I could harvest 10 days early as I counted them 10 days as flowering perid, just when the plant will put its weight on in the last 2 weeks.

I hope that makes sense.

Please Feel free to contribute to the thread & leave comments.

You start counting when the plant starts producing the hormone known as florigen. The plant starts producing florigen the 1st time it receives 12 hours or more of total darkness. Some strains can start producing this hormone at less then 12 hours of complete darkness.

Simple answer: Start counting at 12/12 switch.

I cut part of my banger Bruce fast. From seedsman. This will be the only plant I grow from now on.! Got it down! I will always take advice though. Does anybody I know when I should cop it? Still growing and has white hairs. But I don't want it to go Amber.
Idk but leaf to catalyst ratio is insane…….

I've had plants tricked in as little as 4 or 5 days...others takes up to two weeks...it depends on the strain. I start counting as soon as I change the light schedule to 12 & 12...then ball park it from there. I go by the colour of the trichomes...once I see no more clear ones, all milky with some amber ones, then I cut it down. Sometimes a day or two in complete darkness just to freak her out...make her cum THC globules like the dirty 'ho she is. lol
