Im soil dumb. /Starting over please help...

I use it on house plants but been a long time since I bought a bag. Its hard to over water. Water runs right through it. The only thing is it can get hydrophobic if it dries out to much.

I grew my first auto flowers in it.

Like I said I don't support Monsanto so I quit buying mg and Scotts products.

I buy an organic humus blend and use compost and other amendments.

Any harm in drilling holes in the bottoms.? I have been using small amounts of water but i would like to know the water CAN drain and not just sit in my pots.

No harm. Be careful and don't run the bit all the way in.

Put 2 1/4" holes in each pot. I put the drainage to the test with one of my plants, giving it nearly double what I normally would. Why has noone put holes in the side of their pots to increase oxygen flow with the soil? Just curious

Now using skewers through the holes to hopefully fix clumps. Doubt thats the soulution though. I would like to add perlite but dont know if a transplant is worth the risk.

Im having a house sitter water every three days for the next two weeks as i will be traveling. I would rather fall to risks of under-watering than over doing it. Specially in the hands of someone even less knowledgeable than i am. (Hard to acomplish) hahah. She knows about the one inch dry rule and is equipt with a spray bottle

They're called net planters. They work *very* well. My problem is that my soil is so light that it dries faster than I want it to. So, I don't use them anymore. But, with a heavy soil which I think yours is (or, like Fox Farms, anything without *lots* of perlite) these containers are terrific.
