Ummm ya, not a good look :(, cluster bombs kill lots of non combatants and lots of kids as the unexploded bomblets resemble toys :(. Man, this war sucks big time :(. Hopefully someone puts a bullet in Putin and it ends :(
But they are going to drop the bomblets in trench networks and fields that are already mined more than any place on Earth. Not like a few extra will make it more dangerous.

Everything about this/any war sucks! Cluster bombs are just one of many evil things we have come up with to kill and injure.
Wars are like this. The longer they last the more vicious and nasty they get. If military leadership think those bombs will cause more dead Russian soldiers without extra Ukrainian lives lost, they are going to be used. That's the nature of war.

It's the same with landmines and even Napalm, which I expect them to drop in balloons from drones. War is Hell and Sherman wasn't kidding, but the Ukrainians can do what they please on their own land and the Russians are using cluster munitions on cities and other civilian targets. I was reading they wanted to break some up and use the submunitions as drone bombs. The problem with these things, land mines and all munitions really, is they are left lying around unexploded. I'll bet there are many thousands of defective buried artillery rounds that might go off with a very big bang in the future. At least out on the battlefield the areas where they are used are largely known and that is where the action is now, not so much in the towns and cities.

These things are more of the unpleasantness of war and like nukes or chemical weapons they must be countered in kind. These people are assholes and no accommodation with them is possible, Vlad is also desperate and in an existential struggle. The Russians may yet cause a meltdown or other crises at the nuclear power plant in Ukraine, for now that is my greatest concern.

The News International: US played into Putin's hands by sending cluster munitions to Ukraine
The US decision to send cluster munitions to Ukraine could undermine Washington's morale in the conflict. The supply of prohibited weapons could lead to US accusations of hypocrisy, which could play into Russia's hands.

“This move by the United States could aggravate its relationship with Western allies. Such alleged divisions within the alliance could play into the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who seeks to exploit such divisions,” The News International reported.

Earlier it became known about the US decision to transfer cluster munitions to Ukraine. This was reported in the White House. US President Joe Biden explained the supply of cluster shells by the need for a counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine . The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the transfer of this type of ammunition makes Washington an accomplice in the death of Russian and Ukrainian children.

The Foreign Ministry revealed how cluster munitions will affect the course of the NMD
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the transfer of cluster munitions to Kyiv would not affect the course of the special operation. Their deliveries are a gesture of desperation, she believes, and a continuation of the anti-Russian course on the part of the United States and Western countries.

“The transfer of cluster munitions is a gesture of desperation and evidence of impotence against the backdrop of the failure of the much publicized Ukrainian ‘counteroffensive’. Another “wonder weapon”, which Washington and Kiev are counting on, without thinking about the grave consequences, will not affect the course of the special military operation, the goals and objectives of which will be fully achieved, ”says Maria Zakharova in a statement published on website Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Zakharova noted that the supply of ammunition from the United States is aimed at prolonging the conflict as much as possible. She noted that this type of ammunition is dangerous for the civilian population, since they can be in an unexploded state for a long time and detonate after the end of hostilities.

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned the United States about the terrible consequences due to the supply of cluster munitions
The US decision to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions means that Washington becomes an accomplice in mining territories in the special operation zone. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“By supplying cluster munitions, Washington will actually be an accomplice in mining the territory and will fully share the responsibility for those who died from explosions, including Russian and Ukrainian children,” wrote Maria Zakharova, her words cites the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. She also noted that Western countries were even more drawn into the fighting in Ukraine.

The United States decided to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions due to the failure of the counteroffensive. However, such weapons will not be able to significantly affect the course of a special military operation, Zakharova noted.

The White House announced the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine on July 7. It is noted that the United States recognizes the danger from the use of cluster munitions in the war zone.

translation from Russian propaganda: The Russian Army uses them but it would be a terrible thing if you help Ukraine use them

also: Russia is kicking this hard because these weapons will confer a significant advantage to the opponent, probably against the extensive defensive works in southern U.
I don't know how much of an advantage they confer. Russia has been using them all along and they haven't been doing all that well. Still, though, what's bad for the Russian army is good for Ukraine.

LOL

The US lied to Ukraine about Russia. Too funny, that.
The article complains about the ouster of the “democratically elected” Yanukovych, who proved to be massively corrupt and a Russian stooge.

The author, Chris Hedges, claims to be a socialist and anarchist, but in this article he is giving oxygen to fascists. It is to say hmmm.

*we continue to have trouble with and from a notionally “democratically elected” former head of state. So it seems to be a less useful criterion than implied.

There is a connection in means, methods and outcomes from people who are "far left" and people who are "far right".

I've found certain elements on the international left are having trouble with this war and in adapting to new global realities. Liberal democracies make left leaning policies and practice expanding inclusiveness, fascist governments promote corruption and hatred. The right and wrong of this war are as clear and stark as they are with Trump and what he represents which is fascism. This war is a clear-cut case of illegal aggression and war crimes that breaks international law, some people on the left seem to miss that rather obvious point.

Hedges has a particular dislike of the war economy. That is ok for starry-eyed PoliSci freshmen. But from a supposedly worldly and experienced adult, it comes off as quixotic.
