You know they have to harden in the shade before planting right?
They’ll get good hours of sun in the sunroom before going in the ground. I do harden outside before planting though, once it warms up. Last year I occasionally put a fan on them inside to toughen their stalks too. I lost no branches at all last summer during two tropical storms and three other strong storms, so I’ll do that again as well.

No topping here either. I do plan to widen the plant holes a bit as

I tried planting outside in mid-May last year as they were getting rootbound in the keg cups and I didn't see the point of transplanting twice. Oops - as soon as I put them in the ground we hit a cold snap with night temps in the upper 30s and the plants started turning purple in protest, so I dug them back up, repottd into bigger pots, and brought them back in for a couple more weeks. In hindsight I either started them too early (St. Patrick's Day) or should have repotted in early May. Probably lost a week of stretch inflicting that ordeal on them, but fortunately these Central Asian landraces are tough enough to handle my mistakes and not hermie on me LOL.

How do you guys go 2 months without it being dust?

Im doing my first outdoor this year. Not sure where to dry the plants though. Where do you all dry just massive amounts? Homeowner said the shed. But I dont see it all fitting.
Personally, I hung them in my basement from the ceiling on large runs of rope. I kept large plant limbs attached to part of main stem, so drying was rather slow, and thus they were able to begin cure while hanging.

The smell and flavor ended up being vastly superior vs drying and burping in buckets.

Here's the trick I use dude, I sit down in my kitchen w/my scissors, I put a 8 gallon pot on the stove and heat it up to a slow boil, the steam this produces just the right amount of moisture to freshen the weed back up without it really getting wet, works wonders, from there right into airtight tupperware cont.,don't forget the stem in the bud still has a little moisture in it also,2months is really not to long as it perks right back up just w/steam in the air.ccguns

Im running some Apple Fritter (lumpys cut), NL1BX (AKBB), Wedding Cake (jbeezy cut) and platinum kush mints.

Was going to do some JOTI gods critical cause its supposedly a 50day strain but JOTI takes his sweet time shipping. Most likely wont receive until 2 more weeks. Then I gotta run them to find the females. Not enough time for that.
I've run JOTI in past, not part of stable anymore, seems like his quality has slipped used used to like Purps,BlueGod, God's AK47, and Skunkberry.ccguns

Warfox, was there any climate control in the basement like a dehumidifier?
Yep had a dehumidifier; I think I kept it around 60% ? though in retrospect I would lowered the humidity even more in the beginning of dry.

I will be drying in my shed instead of basement this year because the wife almost killed me haha. Especially with the Dinafem OG Kush it smelled like there was a fuel spill had to open windows.

Plan this year is to thoroughly seal shed and dry out there now.

Hey fellow Mass growers,

Wondering if anyone knows where to obtain quanity of quality organic soil. Preferably from a farm or place that makes soil.

Many thanks.

That's a highly opinionated topic, remember this prod. called supersoil I think masshole was name sold at hydro stores and it was loaded w/sp mites. So you must be careful. I usually combine diff brands into a cocktail then add supplements such as mykos microbes, bio char, roots org. fert,,etc and make my own mix it's not rocket science and i've been at it so long that a lot of soil from my clone grow is still fresh and I winter it over to still use it. If your are inside your main concern will be importing BUGS in your soil, this will FK your grow BIGTIME.So getting something clean of pests is of utmost importance , if outside not many worries. IF it is still cold enough put your mix outside to kill off any insects because once you introduce bugs inside your FKD.good luckccguns

Hi, I appreciate your response. I should have clarified that this is for outdoor and I am looking for a large quantity of affordable high quality soil.
I am thinking I will need about 600 gallons worth of soil or about 80 cubic feet worth, if my calculations are correct.

Thats a lg. amount whats the number in cubic yds, , might want to get best loam you can find and then and add best bagged stuff and amendments to that. ccguns

That's a lot of soil if you're buying it all premixed. For outdoor soil mixes I just make my own. I use a ratio of 40% compost, 40% peat moss, and 20% vermiculite (for indoors in fabric pots I increase the vermiculite and do thirds of each) ... I then mix in a big scoop (maybe 5#) per wheel barrel full of BuildaSoil Craft Blend and half a scoop of Stoned Dust. Then just water it in with whatever microbes you want to activate it ... I use KNF inputs and IMO's I've made from around my property.

Thanks for the responses.

The soil where I plan to grow had many earthworms last season when I did 4 large plants in the ground with a hoop canopy.

Just trying to optimize the soil so that I can minimize any liquid ferts later on. Not sure if I have to replenish the soil with nutrients, as the plants large and may have depleted the soil.

My other concern is minimizing dollars spent.
Would like to get the largest returns and not overspend.

These were the plants in June of last year:20200731_194148.jpg
They were much bigger in September.

if your outdoors just go no till organic, it's the easiest and cheapest by a mile ... build yourself some raised beds, fill them with a good soil then just top off the soil every spring with fresh soil. If you keep it organic the soil will get better every year.

For organic nutes and microbes you can easily make at home check out KNF (Korean Natural Farming). Chris Trump has the best info out there. Here's a link https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisTrumpSoilSteward/videos

I got into KNF last season after using bottled organic nutes (expensive) for years, and I ain't going back .... the only inputs I buy now are the buildasoil, stoned dust, peat moss, and vermiculite. I buy it all in bulk so I doubt it costs me $100/season for everything I need.

Your all set, like I said its not rocket science, just get along w/neighbors,keep mouth shut, and keep eyes open, I like pots because it adds mobility,I also don't let them get too big and take lots of clones instead, you could easily have 150 clones all 2-3 ft tall seaofgreen and harvest plenty and know one ever knows.ccguns

I'll have to stick to 6 large monster plants so as not to invite any legal issues. Neighbors weren't a problem, and because of the hoop house canopy the plants were not visible from the street as required my Massachusetts law.

My idea was to do six 100 gallon smartpots filled with the good soil. But maybe I won't change anything: plant in the ground and amend soil with some amendments.

Western mass grower;

this years game plan for outdoors is go big or go home

running 60; 30 gallon fabric pots.
medium is a high end compost/loam mix from a local producer. adding perlite for aeration at about 20-30%. Amending with bone meal, blood meal, and a few other minor thing dont need much, plus adding mycorrhizae. During veg i'll be running compost teas and fish shit. Come flower ill top dress with bat guano and use mammoth P.
Strain wise, i have 10 plants that are all new strains im growing from seeds. 50 will be established tested clones of strains ive run before.

i know 30 gallons are on the smaller side for outdoor but i dont plan on putting them out til about the first week of june and im only shooting for 1/2-3/4 a pound per plant.
I've also got an exemption for grow size thanks to the legal grey areas that the Cannabis Control Commission has established.

Not sure how to send dms here or if thats even a thing, but soil wise i can help you out here if i knew what part of the state youre from. Having 12 yards of soil/compost trucked in for my veggie/med garden this summer.
