DIY with Quantum Boards

The two lights being discussed are similar but not the same.

As you can see, the light from Quick Bloom Lights is a DIY kit. It uses a 188 diode board. 176 LM301H, 6 Osram 660nm deep red and 6 Osram 470nm blue diodes.

The HLG 100 that you linked is a plug and play light. The board used has 192 LM301H diodes. No mono-color diodes on this board.

The two lights also have different drivers. The Aussie light uses a dimmable Mean Well ELG-100-36A and the HLG 100 V2 uses a non-dimmable Mean Well OWA-90U-36-P1M.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience with Quick Bloom lights. I think they have been an authorized international HLG retailer for at least a couple of years.

Thanks.
So it is legit, with the monos. I like it; pretty cool.

Geez, this thread needs some QB love!

2 QB 288 3500k on a slate double Running at 120 watts from the wall. The cab is, 32" wide, 20" deep, and 28" tall. Plants are in 0.75L containers ( cottage Cheese containers, my favorite starter pot ) Strain is Blue Dragon, my own cross. Pistils are normally very orange but either the Megacrop or the light is turning them chocolate brown. I'm expecting 160-180 grams. considering I've done nothing but feed them, I can't complain!

Started chopping them tonight.

I did a new custom light setup for my 5x5 with 4 QB96s running on two Meanwell HLG-320H-54B, but each driver only puts out a maximum of about 290W according to my inline power meters. I've ruled out my pots as a cause but don't know why they aren't putting out closer to 320W each. Otherwise I'm loving the setup.

Your drivers can't supply any more voltage. If you want to run the two QB96 at a higher current than they are at now, it would require more voltage than your "B" version drivers can put out. The "A" version of your driver model can be manually adjusted up to about 59 volts.

The simplest solution if you want to max out those drivers wattage wise is to spend another $140 on two more QB96. Run three QB96 per driver. They'll be running at a lower current, hence the voltage will be lower than it is now. Besides running cooler and at a higher efficacy level, you'll obviously have a better spread of photons in your 5'x5' tent.

Ah, that makes sense! I was actually planning on adding two more QB96 in the near future, the flexibility of adding more lights was one of the reasons I chose this QB96 setup to begin with. The 4 of them in a 5x5 is stretching it a bit, but two more will cover it pretty well I think.
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Hey,

Can anybody break down the upcoming hlg products in simple terms for me?

There's been mention of a diode (bin?) change that will affect/improve the rspecs (and every board using lm301b I thought) several weeks ago I think.
There's the 'bar style' fixture coming out soon.
There's other stuff or changes in the works too - I just haven't had time to fully dig in/through the gml shows for the actual information lately. And therefore, any purchases are currently on hold because I definitely don't want to purchase something right now, that will be "superseded" or upgraded a week later.

I kinda wish there was a "coming soon" or something similar on their website (or somewhere) where I/we could get some type of image or at least idea of maybe the products and general description (and/or specs) of these new products. Though I can understand why not - if there's other shady sniper knock off companies who're always trying to...be shady pricks.

If there's a thread that's discussing them, I'd appreciate a link as well.
Thanks.

Yes, there is a new bin coming soon, as you mentioned. There are two different bar style lights coming very soon, the Scorpion Diablo and the Scorpion Rspec. Production starts Monday on these, so they should be available next week for purchase.

Ok, cool. Thanks a lot, man.

Can't wait to see the bar style lights. I'm down to try a new form factor from HLG. I wonder what the package/pricing will be like; individual bars and you buy as many as you want or need, or a preset number of bars. I realized some info has been discussed on the gml show, but I'm not going through hours of that listening for something I'm not sure is even there, haha.

Thanks again.

I'm not sure, didn't hear too many specifics. I'm curious about the DIY possibilities of their bar system. I really hope that they will offer individual bars that run @ 27v or 54v each.

There are people who say far red/infrared spectrum is not a player in photosynthesis, but this old person is inclined to believe that it has a synergistic effect when combined with other lighting. Some people also believed that green never played any appreciable role as well but that has been proven by researchers like Dr. Bugby to be incorrect, and he is currently studying the effects of far red wavelengths on photosynthesis. I think as wide a spectrum as possible delivered as efficiently as possible is the ticket.
I'm not up on the science but imagine nothing is better than the sun. Isn't that the goal indoors? Mimic as closely as possible to the sun?

The sun's light is different all over the world, at different latitudes and different altitudes. I wonder which specific geographical location you think should be mimicked indoors. Should we also mimic clouds passing overhead?

If you have Afghan weed mimic Afghan sun times?
I clearly said I'm not up on the science- why be a lil jerk? Are you really that tiny and insignificant in your life you have 2 be a prick on a forum? Sorry your a pos d bag. Kys.
